Here's where you can camp in Arizona's mountains this Labor Day weekend

in #traveling7 years ago

Along with Memorial Day and the Fourth of July, Labor Day is one of most popular camping holidays in Arizona. Labor Day is Sept. 4 this year and it's not too soon to think about where you'll pitch your tent or park your rig.

Lots of people have already staked their claims. Half of Lake Pleasant Regional Park's campsites have been reserved. The 148-site campground filled up last Labor Day.

Among Arizona State Parks, most of the campsites at Buckskin Mountain, Cattail Cove and Lyman Lake are booked for Sept. 1-4. And if you had your sights set on Lake Havasu, Patagonia Lake, Roper Lake or Fool Hollow Lake, you're out of luck. All their sites are reserved.

At the South Rim of Grand Canyon National Park, Mather Campground is completely booked on Sept. 2-3. A few spots are open on Labor Day for those who don't have to be at work or school on Tuesday. The South Rim's Desert View Campground is first-come, first-served, so you'll have to be early — and quite lucky — to nab a spot. All the spots at the North Rim Campground are booked.

Here's a guide to planning your Labor Day camping trip at some of Arizona's popular outdoor destinations. Remember that more campsites may have gotten snapped up since this article was published.
