Local trip #2: Sunday in the Beskydy mountains
Hey there,
I’m here with a new post about our beautiful trip to the Beskydy mountains that we did on Sunday. The weather forecast promised somewhat cloudy, about 5°C and a little windy.
I love the view of the Beskydy mountains very much, as they have nice “curves”. They look like pleasant, mild hills, but some trails can really test you. I picked up easy and not demanding trail, a walk more likely.
By a car, we got to the parking lot of Ski Park Gruň in Staré Hamry. As the weather was pretty fine, there were many people skiing and enjoying the snow. We joined the green tourist sign and a few metres later, an amazing view on Lysá Hora (1323 a. s. l.) opened to us.
After half an hour or so, we reached the main educational path Gruň - Bílý Kříž. The whole trail is 10 kilometres long and is in 800-900 a. s. l., but we chose only a part of it. We didn’t planned any challenging hike but an easy walk, as I wanted to enjoy some far views and - mainly - snow, as there have been none in the city for the whole winter.
The snow cover was about 10-20 cm thick there. The wind started to be stronger, but still bearable. The sun peeped now and then out of the clouds and it was just perfect. We passed by a monument to Wallach sheep, which is a symbol of the Beskydy mountains. Interesting fact is that they have special wool which can be tilted down to protect against rain.
We continued towards Švarná Hanka, a cottage where you can have something to eat and drink. The weather was so favourable that we even could witness a breathtaking view of Malá Fatra mountains in Slovakia and I couldn’t get enough of the beauty.
The path back led around a wooden church from 1887 which really fits there and looks nice.
I was so happy that we had decided to go, because we enjoyed great Sunday walk on fresh air and full of amazing views. We walked about 7 kilometres and approximately 10 500 steps.
Take care.
T.
