Legend Piaroa tells that the hill Autana represents the tree of life, which gave rise to all the fruits that give sustenance to men and animals. It is therefore a sacred mountain in which no Piaroa Indian accepts to enter.

The Cerro Autana tepuy was declared a natural monument in 1978. It is one of the tepuis of southern Venezuela, with approximately 1,300 meters of height. Inside the mountain, there is a cave entirely made of quartz, which measures 400 meters in length and 45 meters in height.
