Markets in Downtown Cancun 🤤
Our new place in Cancun is just a short walk away from the most amazing night market, El Parque de las Palapas. And wanna know the best part? It's on EVERY.SINGLE.NIGHT! After last night's festivities, I feel like a walking balloon.
You can get so many delicious things at El Parque. Tacos, enchiladas, tortas, marquesitas, churros...seriously, all the good Mexican stuff. And at Mexican prices. It's packed full of locals, live music, food trucks and market stalls. Here's some of my favourites so far...
Esquites
I've developed quite the addiction to this little dish. It's basically just boiled corn, mixed with mayonnaise and cheese. Topped with any kind of sauce that tickles your fancy. I've really been enjoying it with Bufalo salsa and Tajin seasoning.
Marquesita
Oh baby! Sooo good. My favourite is filled with ham and cheese. It's got a waffle-like outside, and is filled with delicious, cheesy, hammy goodness. Or again, anything you feel like really. There are so many fillings to choose from.
Tacos Al Pastor
They have become a staple and welcome addition to my life. And all for the low price of 35 pesos for 4 tacos. Dirt cheap and so very tasty.
Churros
They need little to no explanation as I hope everyone here has tried them at least once in their life. But...add caramel sauce and it takes them to a whole new level.
And during the day, there's Mercado 23 for us to enjoy. It seems that there's a market square every few blocks around here. At Mercado 23 you'll find things like Mexican souvenirs, handmade clothing, ceramics, rugs, tequila, and a wide range of fresh local food. And the colours are out of this world. We just had to pick up a super bright rug to remind us of our time in Mexico. And here's a look at bacon and eggs Mexican style.
We're staying in a pretty basic Airbnb that could do with a huge clean but for $20 a night, it's not bad. The location is superb and there's AC so we're happy campers. At first I thought we had a green sink, but it seems that the sink installer forgot to remove the protective plastic coating before sealing it in place. Ah Mexico!
Other than eating a bucket load of food at the local markets, we haven't done too much exploring, so here's some pretty stuff in the nearby streets for your enjoyment.
Nice report. This would've been perfect for #MarketFriday
Thanks! Glad you liked it 🙏 And gosh darn it. I actually haven't heard of that one. It's so hard to keep track of everything on here.
