Carrick-a-Rede rope bridge - Northern Ireland

Earlier this year we were lucky enough to travel through Northern Ireland, and were amazed by the dramatic scenery - especially the cliffs and seaside views. At the very tip of Northern Ireland is the Crick-a-Rede rope bridge - a rope/swing bridge that connects to the tiny island of Carrickareed, and gives a stunning view of the Atlantic ocean.

Carrick-a-Rede bridge from a distance

There is a fee to travel over the bridge - it is staffed to prevent over use and keep people safe (it only holds so many people at a time!). Tickets can be bought on site or online.

Stopping for a photo of the bridge

I didnt find the bridge to scary to go across - it did sway abit but nothing to dramatic (if you are afraid of heights then dont look down!). It was well managed, and they didnt let to many people on at once. We were able to stop a few times along the bridge to take photos and didnt feel rushed. It is a busy site so we were still respectful of all the other visitors!

Wonderful views!

The island itself is actually pretty small, but the views are breathtaking. It is a great place to have a picnic or a drink and it has a very relaxed atmosphere. We went in the morning so we didnt have any time pressure to get back across the bridge, but in the afternoon it does close at a certain time and something to be aware of...

Dramatic cliffs

Like alot of Ireland and Northern Ireland the cliffs and coastline are amazing and could easily make the setting for movies. I remember standing it awe of these crazy cliffs.

Breathtaking!

I did some reading about it online afterwards and some people seem to think that it was overprices. I thought that the views and experience were well worth the money! This was near the end of our trip through Ireland and Northern Ireland, and by then we had realized that pretty much everything like this is fairly expensive. So it is sad to have to pay to see natural beauty, but in this case it was probably needed as the bridge was staffed to keep it safe.

Deep in thought...

Overall a trip I would recommend if you are in or near the the top of Northern Ireland.
