In case you missed my last post on Koh Lipe in general and the Sunset beach, definitely check it out as (for me) Sunset beach is the gem of the island!

Koh Lipe is super small, so the popular resorts are often booked months in advance. Because of that and it’s popularity at many Asian tourists it’s more expensive then other islands in Thailand. Room rates start at 20$ per Person for a budget hotel located in the middle of the island. Most huts on the beach start at 85$ per room (for two persons). For a calm, relaxed stay I would definitely stay at Sunset Beach. But for some beach life during the day and cool beach bars in the evening, Sunrise beach is definitely the better choice!

Sunrise Beach

Today’s post will all be about Sunrise beach, whose white sand strip is for most tourists the reason why Koh Lipe is also called the Maldives of Thailand. It’s located on the eastern side of the triangular shaped island and is the longest beach strip of Koh Lipe.

Most resorts are located on Sunrise beach, so there’s really one next to the other, but still broad and wide enough spaced, that every hotel has its own part of the beach.
Regarding the sand it maybe is the most stunning one, but there is one big flaw on that beach: The dumping ground from the whole island is located directly on the beach! So once per week - before the ships are picking up all that waste - your beautiful paradise view will be ruined by this huge trash mountain and trust me it’s huge! It’s quite in the north of the beach so there’s a chance you won’t see it if you book a resort in the south.

My favorite spot on Sunrise Beach was the “Sea La Vie Bar”. It’s a laid-back hippie bar with a unique atmosphere. You will directly recognise it by its big tree house with lots of lampions directly on the beach.
Directly next to it is one of the best but also most beloved hotels on whole Koh Lipe - the Cast Away Resort. Whoever I met who was in that hotel was absolutely overwhelmed. It’s made up of wooden two-floor houses where you can either book the upper or the lower apartment, each stuffed with hammocks. The hotel is offering its guests yoga sessions, diving courses and boat trips.

Another small negative point for some people might be that the longtail boats that depart for day trips all dock at that Sunrise beach, so - through their motors - it’s quite noisey the whole day.

Unterkunft

Falls du meinen letzten Post über Koh Lipe im Allgemeinen und den Sunset Beach verpasst hast, schau ihn dir definitiv an, der Sunset Beach ist (für mich) das Juwel der Insel!

Koh Lipe ist super klein, deshalb sind die beliebten Resorts oft Monate im Voraus ausgebucht. Deshalb und wegen seiner Beliebtheit bei vielen asiatischen Touristen ist Koh Lipe teurer als andere Inseln in Thailand. Die Zimmerpreise beginnen bei 15€ pro Person für ein Budget Hotel in der Mitte der Insel. Die meisten Bungalows am Strand starten bei 70€ (für zwei Personen). Für einen ruhigen, entspannten Aufenthalt würde ich auf jeden Fall eine Unterkunft am Sunset Beach wählen. Aber für ein bisschen Strandleben während des Tages und coole Strandbars am Abends ist der Sunrise Beach definitiv die bessere Wahl!

Sunrise Beach

Der heutige Post dreht sich ganz um den Sunrise Beach, dessen weißer Sandstreifen für die meisten Touristen der Grund ist, weshalb Koh Lipe auch die Malediven Thailands genannt wird. Er ist auf der östlichen Seite der dreieckigen Insel und der längste Strand auf Koh Lipe.

Die meisten Resorts befinden sich am Sunrise Beach, deshalb gibt es wirklich ein Hotel neben dem anderen, aber dennoch genug weitläufig genug, dass jedes Hotel seinen eigenen Strandabschnitt hat.
Was den Sand angeht ist Sunrise Beach der schönste, aber leider gibt es ein großes Manko an diesem Strand: Die Mülldeponie der gesamten Insel ist direkt an diesem Strand! Deshalb wird einmal pro Woche - bevor die Schiffe den ganzen Müll abholen - der wunderschöne paradiesische Ausblick durch diesen riesigen Müllberg gestört - und er ist wirklich groß! Er ist ziemlich nördlich gelegen, deshalb kann es sein dass man ihn nicht sieht, wenn man ein Hotel im Süden bucht.

Mein Lieblingsort am Sunrise Beach war die “Sea La Vie Bar”. Es ist eine coole Hippie Bar mit einer einzigartigen Atmosphäre. Man erkennt sie direkt an ihrem großen Baumhaus und ihren vielen Lampions direkt am Strand.
Direkt daneben ist eins der besten aber auch beliebtesten Hotels auf ganz Koh Lipe - das Cast Away Resort. Wen auch immer ich getroffen habe, der in dem Hotel war, war absolut begeistert. Es besteht aus zweistöckigen Holzhäusern, bei denen man entweder das obere oder das untere Apartment mieten kann, jedes ausgestattet mit einer Hängematte. Das Hotel bietet seinen Gästen Yoga Sessions, Tauchkurse und Bootstouren an.

Ein anderer kleiner Nachteil am Sunrise Beach könnten für einige Leute die Tages-Ausflugsboote sein, die hier alle anlegen, deshalb ist es dort - wegen der Motoren - den ganzen Tag relativ laut.
