Maidan, Naberezhnye Chelny, Russia

I am starting a series of posts about my home city - Naberezhnye Chelny, the Republic of Tatarstan, Russia. I'm not sure I will finish this series, but I have information for at least 3 posts)).

Naberezhnye Chelny is the city where KAMAZ trucks are manufactured. If you don't know KAMAZ won Paris-Dakar Rally for 14 times. I'll tell you more about the city in a post about the sights. They are very few because the whole city is a big sleeper cell and every piece of land is quickly built up by new buildings and shopping centers. Today we will start from the place where all the city holidays are held (except for the New Year). In practice, the main square of the city is Maidan (in Tatar language, Maidan means a square). What is the square for you? A large pedestrian space?

But not in Naberezhnye Chelny! We have a road that closed on holidays. All the free space here is built up with shopping centers and restaurants.

We are already approaching the square. See what beautiful clouds are today, on the street today it was + 12-14 degrees. The glass building is a new shopping center, and in front across the road is another one.

And here is the Maidan. If we go forward, then we will approach the stadium. And further away, there is a descent to the embankment.

Instead of making walkways and planting trees, there are restaurants and cafes on the right side of the Maidan.

On the left is the shopping center and the apartment buildings.

Here and further are new buildings, you see that there is a park near them, but in fact it is very small. Previously, there was a large park and it was cut down to build houses, because the apartments are more expensive near the river.

We approach the stadium. It opens only during public holidays and I did not have the opportunity to take a picture of it inside.

The stadium includes 15,000 people. The population of the city is 530 000 people.
