A garage is not safest place to park a car

in #travel8 years ago

I got a job call from down in New Orleans to drive a 2012 Chevrolet Traverse from New Orleans to Louisville, Kentucky. So they bought my plane ticket and I flew down to pick up the car.I picked up the car and It was nice beautiful weather in New Orleans as I started my drive. It was perfect driving weather the whole trip.  I was doing good and making good time for the short trip.I made it all the way to Kentucky before time to be there. I had 2 days to hold it before I dropped it off at airport in Louisville. So I took it for a wash and got it all shined up like brand new. Now I was wondering where to park it until day of delivery. So I thought I would park it in a garage. The one and only place I thought it would be safe. I parked in garage and thought maybe I'll throw a coat of wax on it to protect the paint and look good for customer. After a few hours of shining the wheels and the paint. I was working on hood of car and worked my way around to the front passenger side taking off the wax.

The wind in Kentucky was blowing kind of hard. is one of the reasons also of parking in the garage. As I was taking wax off the passenger side front fender. I heard three loud cracking sounds. Then I heard the lights upstairs in garage where busting. I looked up and ceiling was coming down. So I ducked beside car and ran around towards the door. I got around to back of car and the garage door blew outward like all air in garage blew the door outward. I kept going to get out running and ducking. I got out the main door and seen tree branches laying in the yard. I looked back and saw,A tree has fell on the roof.  I went back in after all was calm and to see what has happened. Looked in and seen car looked ok from behind. But front of car had ceiling sitting a top of.The tree was sitting on front of car. I looked around passenger side where I was working on taking wax off.Dang I was just at front of car when I heard the three loud cracks. I could have been killed by tree at spot where I was.

The tree that fell was a big old tree. The truck was six foot wide and it destroyed everything in its path.As we pulled car out of garage with another truck. Everything stayed the way it settled. The car was totaled. I was worried. What am I going to tell the owner. I was not out driving it when it got totaled was a good thing.  So, I told the owner the truth about parking car inside a garage was safest place I knew of. and a tree fell on.

He kept asking me "is it totaled", "is it totaled" I looked at it and said yes it was totaled. He had a insurance guy to come and take a look and he said yes, its totaled. The A pillar across top of windshield was bent means its totaled.

The owner of car was happy with what all I have done getting business taking care of. and telling him the story of what all has happened. He told me it was a act of god and nothing I could do about it. He's been a repeat customer for over 10 years. and still a repeat customer cause he knows his cars are in good hands with me and I'll take care of business.
