The Perfect Packing List For A Week In Iceland

What to pack for the Land of Fire and Ice? If you are coming from Canada, such as myself, you won't find it too cold. During my time there the average temperature was a high of 11 degrees Celsius and a low of 2. With that, if you do not have the proper dress, life can be pretty miserable. Here you will find what I brought with me during my week in Iceland.

Outerwear

Waterproof Shell, Packable Puffer

I wore these two items together throughout the whole trip.
It's easy to layer and strip down when needed. The puffer is a great piece to have on the plane as well; it always gets so cold.

Layering Pieces

T-Shirt, Flannel Shirt

I rotated between 4 t-shirts on this trip.
Having an extra shirt made me feel fashionable and worked well having that additional layer.

Sweaters

I always try to bring a carry-on when I travel, this trip was no exception. I was able pack three sweaters for this trip comfortably.
This red sweater is my favourite.

Bottoms

Stretchy leggings for the plane, indigo blue and black denim for the trip. Do you see the sequenced holes in the plane where the man in entering? I was able to climb up in these jeans; they are a great pair.

Footwear

Danner Mountain Pass Boots

Loved these boots! They are waterproof, kept my feet dry and warm under the constant spray of the massive waterfalls, you can see here.

I was days away from my trip when I discovered these boots, in my haste I didn't do my proper research for the sizing. I am usually a size 7 US in footwear. I highly encourage you to speak to a representative to determine what size you would be in these boots.

I felt like I could have gone down one size. However, with my thick wool socks, the shoes were a comfortable fit with a small bit of space. The brand also made an appearance in the movie "WILD."

Gear

During this trip we rented a car, so the only time we needed to carry a backpack was for our hike. This image is on the way to Glymur. Any bag with waist straps will help distribute the weight of the bars and water you are carrying. There are no washrooms available for use, bring some tissues, hand sanitizer and a ziplock bag to remove your trash.
Toques and gloves are nice to have!

Swimsuit

I have not heard of anyone visiting Iceland and not experiencing a hot spring! Bring your bathing suit and enjoy the natural hot springs and geothermal pools Iceland has to offer. The above photo was taken at Blue Lagoon. Pre-booking is required so make sure you have that item taken care of for your trip.

Medication

If you are prone to a headache, bring your Tylenol. You can only purchase Advil or Tylenol from pharmacies in Iceland. So if people get sick in Hofn, they need to travel 6 hours to Reykjavik to see a doctor.
