Italy: Cinque Terre
Here is a little story of visiting Cinque Terre in Italy. I will try to not spoil much for the steemians who would like to go there.
This is a really beautiful region I recommend to go there but maybe not in summer. Better in spring because there are less tourists and it is cooler. This part of Italy is very mountainous and of course you could just go there and visit the cities, but I would recommend to hike between the villages. Unfortunately, some of the paths are not in a good condition and some are closed for security reasons...
First we rented a room in Deiva Marina so not in the main 5 villages of Cinque Terre but close to the railway station (why? we will see it later). This is a pretty little village with a beach. Beaches are not available in each village because of the mountainous terrain with mainly cliffs.
First day, we took the train to Vernazza. Amazing train trip all in tunnels, briefly showing nature or little villages between the tunnels.
The first feeling arriving in the village is amazing. It seems to be the small Italian towns I always imagined. The main street with many little shops leads directly to the harbour. On each sides are many little houses with tiny passages.
Some of the passages are quite large, but some are pretty small and the houses are so close that they lean to each other by some small "bridges".
Some of the passages are little houses between houses. No room loosed.
The little paths have to lead you uphill and some are very funny complicated.
The question: how do you go there with your car? Protip: you don't. Most of those villages are closed to cars so the main mean of transport is the train. Some of the towns have a parking lot on the upper side of the town but I would recommend to take the train. Affordable, much quicker and simpler than with car.
The second day we went to Riomaggiore. Also a beautiful little village, much alike Vernazza. Colourful houses, little passages and this ambiance of Italy. And of course the tiny passages, everywhere. Did I mention the little passages?
The main street is very nice with all those shops where to buy local products and really tasty ice creams!
The next day, we took a boat. The boat trip was very nice and offered a different sight angle of the villages.
Last day we went to Manarola. So alike but so nice, the athmosphere is present and there are much hiking possibilities from there.
The mountainous surroundings allow to have different points of view.
That's it. After few days we had to go back home... Those were fantastic holidays!
Beautiful picture :)
Thank you! You make also great images, well done with the sugar.
