The distances
In spite of being an very small island, many things are far away, to go to the center of the island or to the commercial centers without own vehicle it is necessary to take several buses.
The gastronomy of the region
As we are surrounded by the sea we have an abundance of fish and shellfish and they are much cheaper than on the mainland, which is why a great variety of dishes are prepared with these seafood, among them are the fish fillets fried or roasted with arepa, salad, rice, tostones or fries, seafood empanadas, fideuá with octopus, squid, prawns, shrimp, crabs and snails, seafood stews, ceviches, seafood skewers and other more elaborate dishes like the lobster.
The drinks that we can enjoy
In the whole Caribbean we use a typical sweetener, here we call it papelón, it is also known as panela and we combine it with lemon, passion fruit, tamarind and local fruit, there is a juice similar to a tea, it is served cold with enough ice and it is terrific, the cocadas are also prepared and the coconut water is taken.
For people who love to taste drinks with alcohol we find from the famous Cuba Libre, daiquiri and mojito, to other regional beverages such as **Ron with dates, ron with Ponsigué and Ponche Crema that is taken at the December parties.
Delicious fruits
In the Caribbean islands the climate is tropical and it is normal to find huge palm trees of coconut, mango trees, tamarind, papaya, mamey, medlar and other extremely delicious fruits that for us are common and in other countries they are super expensive, something that makes these fruits so special is their exquisite flavor since it is totally different to those you can find anywhere in the world.

Even though when we think of an island right away in our mind we see beaches and palm trees, trust me, there is a lot more, we have mountains, valleys, rivers and impressive forests, a sample of this is this photo.
Our biggest and most visited treasure
We have an immense sea all year long to choose only for us, totally crystalline hot waters where we can see the sand and the blue sky reflects, there we can relax under a palm tree to listen to music, read a book or just go to bed to sunbathe (is what I love to do), beaches with waves ideal for water sports such as windsurfing and other beaches that are ideal for fishing and diving, wonderful things and incredible, although most of the inhabitants almost always go to the beach on vacation.
And when the sun sets it's an absolute gift, it looks like a postcard or the cover of a magazine, look at ...
