RE: Getting Robbed at Gunpoint in a Guatemalan Highway

in #travel7 years ago (edited)

That sucks, man. And I'm sorry this happened to you. This really pisses me off. I was just having a conversation the other about this exact thing with my fahter-in-law. My wife is Venezuelan and so is he. I don't know if I need to explain what's going on in Venezuela but I'm going to assume that I don't. What pisses us both off more than anything is that a person spends time working their asses off generally early on in life to be able to afford these things like cameras, houses, phones, cars, etc. Who the hell thinks they can just take that away from us? I remember him telling me a story about a time he was eating out with the family and a guy pulled a gun on his 6 year old daughter (my sister-in-law) and told my father-in-law to give him the keys to his car. What do you do in that situation? You give him the damn keys. Luckily, the cops were able to find the car a few hours later and arrested the thieves. I truly don't know what it's like to be held somewhere against my will to this extent. I hope I never do. Let this be a lesson to everyone to be ready to do whatever you have to do to stay alive.
