The Armorial Hall of the Winter Palace

in #travel3 years ago

The majestic Armorial Hall is one of the largest rooms of the Winter Palace. The hall is pretentious, decorated in white and gold colors, which creates a sense of calm grandeur. Gilded columns are placed around the perimeter of the hall, balconies with a balustrade under the ceiling.

At the entrance to the hall, on the left and right, there are sculptural groups - Russian soldiers with banners.

Why is the hall called the Armorial? Where are the coats of arms? They are safely hidden from the casual glance at the chandeliers!

The coats of arms are made in the form of thin relief metal plates of golden color and placed around the perimeter of the chandelier hoops throughout the hall. There are 12 coats of arms on each chandelier.

Therefore, if you visit the The Armorial Hall of the Winter Palace in Saint Petersburg, in addition to viewing all the surrounding splendor, do not forget to raise your head up to examine the coats of arms on the chandeliers in detail.
