Worldtrip! Our travel adventures continue in awesome AUSTRALIA!!
We left Asia, but we will go back there many more times! A new adventure was waiting for us; Aussie!!!
Our trip to Sydney went smoothly. And there we were; in AUSTRALIA! For Nikki now the 2nd time, but for Carmen the first. She still can not believe it.
At the airport we quickly got our first 500 dollars from the ATM and we were on our way to the hostel that we had booked for 12 nights...
Upon arrival, the rules were told to us immediately. We stood there as 2 brave girl with innocent nods;
-Please wash your own plate
-Silence after 23:00
-Keep you stuff in your own boxes
-Take off your own sheets when checking out
Yes, we know! We are 26 years old and 1 of us had been living by herself for 5 years already but okay. Apparently it was necessary to be treated in this childish way.
We were singed into room 11 and we could just pick an empty bed...
The choice was not so big... We entered room 11 and saw 2 bunk beds with 2 backpacks and some stuff. We decided to walk to the next niche; There again 2 bunk beds where there were obviously 2 girls living (read: the ground was sown with all their clothes, make-up and drink). No thanks. We went for opportunity number 3! What we found there... 1 big pig stall from our new English girlfriend Amy. Yes! This as our spot! Unlike our girlfriend, we have stuffed our clothes in boxes and locked up our other stuff and we fled as quickly as possible from this prison. We had a mission: A picture for the opera house for a friends birthday back home, you can see by the picture that we accomplished that mission! Super cool to see and the walk there was also beautiful.
This first night we fell asleep very quickly and when we woke up we wanted to shower and pee of course, but no no. That's not so easy at this hostel. You have to put your alarm clock for that half an hour earlier. There was a whole line every time! Welcome to the hostellive. But that's quite logical if you have to share 1 toilet and 3 showers with about 60 people. It was so bad that the men decided to just piss in the shower if it was free. Nice! But fortunately we paid only 550 euros for 12 nights! The Hilton is even cheaper!
Well, the hostel was just completely %&^^%$#*, but we survived.
It was Christmas time back then and in our hostel we saw a flyer for a pool party on Christmas eve. We had to do that once! Sun, drinks, pool and meet new people. Nikki posted a picture in the 'dutchies in Australia' app with the question; who else went. And that's where it all started....!
Immediately she received a private app from Sabine, asking where those pool party tickets are for sale and how expensive they are. Sabine had rented her own room for about 3 weeks and needed some fun people. Okay, we're in!
We agreed to meet at our hostel and there she was... waiting for two strange girls. It almost felt like a kind of blind date. From that moment on we were together to be the 3 musketeers of Sydney. So much fun!
We went to the pool party and there we got to know more dutchies; Berend from Purmerend and Esmee from Enschede.
In addition to all this cosines, we also had to take care of some serious matters. As a sort of inhabitant of Aussie, it must be arranged. For example, we have opened a bank account, signed an Australian telephone subscription and requested a tax file number.
AND... not to mention: our car/house on wheels has been bought! We are the new proud owner of a big white Toyota. And we are proud of it! We have bought it from another Dutch couple who would rather take the car home. Sorry not possible!
The rest of our Christmas in Sydney and New years we will show you tomorrow!!! Kissesss
nice post :)
Thank you!
Be careful about the ozone layer, i heard lot about it.
We will, it's winter now but the sun is still soooo strong!
Cool story! Where do you plan on going in Australia, I'll be there in October for 12 months after China. Was it relatively easy settiny yourself up with a bank account etc?
Thank you, we are acctually already in Aussie for 6 months now. Been to Sydney, Great ocean road, Melbourne, Brisbane and this week we will fly to Airlie beach and we go up to Cairns from there.
It was pretty easy, you just have to stay in 1 spot for about 2 weeks cause they will send you your card by post and you have to have a Aussie phone number, but that also is pretty easy. No worries ;)
I still gotta go to Australia...so jealous! It looks amazing!
If you ever get the change, go for it!!! Cause it really is amazing
Brave indeed, very cool. I tell my friends in the US to go backpack around Asia and how cheap you can travel. 99. 9% just can't imagine doing it. Once you do it once you can't wait to do it again. Have a blast. Up voting for your adventurous attitude.
Thank you! Everyone should travel at soem point and then they can tell for sure if they like it or not! We love it and it's so addicting! Never not traveling!!!
Classical Aussie arrivals with those sketchy guest house :p
Glad to read you again !
Haha yes very good first experience! We will be traveling for the next 2 weeks and we will see a lot of hostels again so that will be fun haha. Thank you!
Enjoy the backpacker lifestyle then ;)
