Cambodia - how natives life at and on the water - Travel with Salima & Timo
During our 4 week trip in Cambodia we did not get around the largest lake in Southeast Asia. Tonle Sap Lake, which is close to Siem Reap. Each year the surface of the lake increases by a factor of ten.
This is more than 4 times as great as it is in the dry time. Usually its depth is 2-3m only. During the rainy season there are up to 14 depths. When we were on the shore, we could not see the other side of the lake, so gigantic was the area.
The water is really brown, as if it were soaked in mud. A few years ago, the lake was still full of crocodiles, but this has changed to the contrary due to the high demand of the leather.
On this day we drove down to the shore of the lake. After we passed the tourist harbor with our scooter, and came closer to the shore, we had arrived in the middle of the village of the locals.
Houses floating on the water, people who are not materially rich, but have a friendly heart and openness towards us. And that's what impressed us! We met many families and talked to them for a long time.
As a traveler, we often come to places where there are no tourists. Right there we are then friendly received and very interesting discussions arise.
But it may also help us to help with the baby. We have often noticed that we as a family are perceived quite differently from the single.
