Travel to Brazil #2 - Fernando de Noronha
Fernando de Noronha is yet another paradise-like destination located in Northeastern Brazil. This is an archipelago comprised of 21 islands within an area of 26km², its main island is also called Fernando de Noronha, being the most expansive (17km²) and the only inhabited one. This little piece of heaven is located 545 Km from Recife´s shores.
There are three daily flights taking travellers to Fernando de Noronha all year round. Two of them departing from Recife, and another from Natal, Rio Grande do Norte´s capital city. The archipelago was established a world heritage site in 2001, by UNESCO. Locals are very respectful of nature here, business and entertainment activities are developed in a most sustainable, environmentally-friendly way.
The incredible climate of Fernando de Noronha makes this destination all that surfers and divers can wish for. Its crystal waters provide clear visibility at up to 50 meters undersea. Marine fauna is very diverse here, numerous species of fish, turtles and eventually sharks and dolphins all bring life to these shores.
Fernando de Noronha boasts numerous activities for the visitors of the island, trips on boats, hiking, a shark museum, beautiful beaches, just to name a few.
As for the archipelago´s lodging, it has its own particular rating system created and established by the local tourist board. In Fernando de Noronha, the traditional stars are replaced by dolphins; the top lodges in the area are proud to show-off their three-dolphin-rate.
Gastronomy is another plus in the island, there is a vast array of restaurants that rage from the simplistic homemade Brazilian meals to the most exquisite gourmet dishes. Being the highlight of the local cuisine all preparations adopting sea-food; which, by the way, are very popular among tourists.
