Travel to Brazil #1: Jericoacoara

in #travel7 years ago (edited)

Jijoca de Jericoacoara is a city located 300 km west from Fortaleza, Ceará state´s capital, this place is home to one of the most beautiful places in the Northeast coast of Brazil, the famous beach of Jericoacoara.

Also known as Jeri, the site holds several factors that make this place one of the most sought after destinations not only amongst Brazilian trevellers, but also amongst foreigners from all over the world looking for unspoiled nature, far from the overwhelming city life and its traffic jams, never ending queues and everyday stress.

An Environmentally Protected Area (APA) and National Park (PARNA), since 2002, the construction of highways and roads in these surrounds is prohibited. Making the access to this beach rather tough because of its enormous dunes, appropriate vehicle (and techniques) are highly recommended for driving around here.

Jericoacoara beach was listed one of the top ten most beautiful beaches in the world by Washington Post Magazine in 1984, and it also served as a film set in 1997.
Because perseveration and environmental protection laws are taken seriously here, Jericoacoara hotels and lodges are generally simplistic, but do not lack in comfort.

Jeri, as it also known by the locals, offers great conditions for windsurfing, sand boarding and kite surfing. Its main attractions are the Holed Stone, the Jijoca Lagoon and the Sunset Dune.
