October is the month of beer festivals across the US and other countries such as Germany, which is the most popular Oktoberfest. Today I will share my experience at the Big Bear Lake Oktoberfest. The Big Bear Lake Oktoberfest  has celebrated this festival for 46 years, bringing this true German tradition to the mountains of Big Bear Lake. Hope you enjoy.  

Octubre es el mes de festivales de cerveza en todo Estados Unidos y en otros países como Alemania, que es festival más popular conocido como Oktoberfest. Hoy voy a compartir mi experiencia en el festival de Big Bear Lake Oktoberfest. Este festival se ha celebrado desde hace 46 años trayendo esta verdadera tradición alemana a las montañas de Big Bear Lake. ¡Espero que lo disfruten!

Location and Cost 

The festival takes place in the convention center, which is located about 10 minutes from the Village, the center of the town. The entrance to this festival is $19.99 for an adult general admission. You can also choose from special packages, which is what I did. I chose the party pack, which included general admission, a beer stein, 1 free beer and 1 ticket for a dinner of my choice for $49.00. This saves you a little as well as if you purchase the tickets in advance. Tickets can be purchased online at htttp://www.bigbearevents.com/oktoberfest.com or at the convention center.    

 

El festival se lleva a cabo en el centro de convenciones el cual se encuentra a unos 10 minutos del llamado Village, el centro de la ciudad. La entrada a este festival es de $ 19.99 para una entrada general para adultos. También puedes elegir entre paquetes especiales, que es lo que yo hice. Elegí el paquete que incluye la entrada general, un tarro de cerveza, 1 cerveza y 1 boleto para una cena de mi elección por $49.00. Esto te ahorra un poco al igual que si compras las entradas con anticipación. The Music  

The Big Bear Lake Oktoberfest features three bands direct from Germany. This is one of the main attractions at this beer fest.  I really enjoyed the music at this festival especially the one on the main stage as the band was great and played a variety of German and other popular  American songs! The main singer was pretty impressive as he was able to imitate famous singers such as Elvis Presley. Besides the good music that put everybody to dance throughout the night, the band engaged with the pubic in the performances. Everybody was dancing and enjoying themselves including myself.     

El Big Bear Lake Oktoberfest cuenta con tres bandas directamente traídas de Alemania. Este es uno de los principales atractivos de este festival de la cerveza. ¡Me gustó mucho la música en este festival especialmente la que está en el escenario principal ya que la banda es muy buena y tocó una variedad de canciones populares estadounidenses al igual que alemanas! El cantante principal es bastante impresionante ya tiene capacidad de imitar a cantantes famosos como Elvis Presley. Además de la buena música que puso a todos a bailar durante toda la noche, la banda se involucraba con el púbico en las actuaciones. Todo el mundo estaba bailando y divirtiéndose incluyéndome a mí.

How To Get To Big Bear Lake Oktoberfest?

Getting to the Big Bear Lake Oktoberfest is quite easy. You can drive to the festival as it is only about 10 minutes from the Village, which is the downtown of Big Bear Lake. I however do not recommend this option as drinking beer is a big part of these festivals. You can also take a taxi for $20 dollars, which is what I did as I was planning to drink. What I did not like about the tax is that there is only one cab company in Big Bear and with different festivals taking place that weekend it was very tough to be able to get through to order a taxi. It took over 20 calls to be able to get through and about 15 minutes for the taxi to arrive. My recommendation is to take a shuttle. The shuttle is complimentary and can be taken from the Village. You can also take the shuttle back to your hotel or cabin free of cost. I loved that they provided this option as people can drink without having to worry about driving or getting a taxi. 

Llegar al Big Bear Lake Oktoberfest es bastante fácil considerando que está a sólo 10 minutos del Village, que es el centro de Big Bear Lake y se puede manejar a este lugar. Yo sin embargo no recomiendo esta opción ya que beber cerveza es una gran parte de estos festivales. También puedes tomar un taxi por $20 dólares, que es lo que hice yo pues tenía pensado tomar. Lo que no me gusto de esta opción es que sólo hay una compañía de taxis en Big Bear y con diferentes festivales llevándose a cabo en este lugar ese fin de semana fue muy difícil pedir un taxi. Se tardó más de 20 llamadas para conseguirlo y alrededor de 15 minutos para el que el taxi llegara. Mi recomendación es tomar un servicio de transporte llamada shuttle. El servicio de transporte es gratuito y se puede tomar desde el Village. También puedes tomar este transporte de regreso a tu hotel libre de costo. Me encantó esta opción ya que la gente puede beber sin tener que preocuparse de conducir o coger un taxi.

Where To Eat?  

The main stage provides  kitchen with the traditional German dishes such as brats, strudel, pickled feet, wild boar and pretzels. There are also other foods other than German. There is the Hans German Cantina, which offers a fusion of Mexican dishes to German nachos, brat burritos, and cob salads. You can also find other type of food at the Wurst Wagon, which serves grilled burgers, fries, chicken strips, and beer cheese soup. This one is located in the outdoor stage. In the outdoor stage you can also find funnel cakes, kettle corn and deep fried oreos. I decided to go with the traditional German dishes in the main kitchen and I was not disappointed. Overall, I thought the food was pretty good and enjoyed it. I recommend the spicy brat.    

Hay dos barras principales dentro y cuatro afuera. Puedes encontrar cervezas alemanas tradicionales, así como cervezas y vinos americanos. Si no deseas beber alcohol también se puede elegir entre café, bebidas deportivas y agua. Como yo compré un paquete para la entrada a este festival pude conseguir un tarro y una cerveza además de alimentos incluidos. Yo no disfrute de las cervezas alemanas tanto por desgracia, por lo tanto, cambié a las cervezas estadounidenses a la mitad de la noche. ¡En general, recomiendo este festival! Los precios tan razonables, hay muchas opciones de comida y cerveza. Es un evento animado con música, juegos y tiene un buen ambiente, lo que contribuye a un buen momento. Where To Drink ?

There are two main bars inside and 4 bars outside. You can find traditional German beers as well as American beer and wine. If you do not want to drink alcohol you can also choose from soft drinks, coffee, sport drinks water.  Since I bought a package for the entrance to this festival I was able to get a stein and a beer plus food included. I did not enjoy the German beers as much unfortunately, therefore,  I switched to the traditional American beers half ways trough the night.  Overall, I recommend this festival! I had a great time, prices as reasonable, there are many choices for food and beer. It is a lively event with music, games , pouring and has a good atmosphere, which contributes to a good time.
