After pilling in the rental Car in San Jose, we began to make our multi-hour commute to the volcano town of La Fortuna. Our first goal was to get out of the city of San Jose as soon as possible! In the short 15 minutes I had been there I could already tell traffic was horrendous, and running the risk of a possible auto accident was not high on my priority list to say the least. Leaving the city, the sides of the roads where buildings had stood now comprised of a giant, beautiful, healthy jungle. With rolling hills and thick green vegetation, I realized then why Costa Rica was one of the world's most biodiverse hotspots.

The countryside was gorgeous but what wasn't was the roads. From what i've read the roads in Costa Rica used to be alot worse. The potholes that lie today were deep, wide holes a decade ago. A lot has changed but, it still not to the standards many tourist are used to. The roads in Costa Rica are not like those in the U.S or Europe. What I mean by that are, many of the roads are thin and winding. This is because Costa Rica is very mountainous and that's how they were designed at the time. Don't be surprised if your going through a curve, on a thin mountain road, with a box truck coming the opposite way, and the cars behind are honking/riding your bumper because your going 35 kmh. Now, I don't mean to scare you or any other potential traveler going to Costa Rica. Before our trip people swore up and down to us to not rent a rental car because of the danger, to ride the buses/taxi. But, by renting that rental car we had the freedom to do anything we wanting during the trip. We partaked in many activity that we had not previously planned or had been able to if we hadn't had a rental car. By having that car we had many more options. But, that decision is yours to make. If your traveling to Costa Rica and considering renting a car weigh out the pros and cons. Extra Tip: Renting a car in Costa Rica is very expensive, even more than the U.S.

Back to the story! The drive from San Jose to La Fortuna is about 90 miles. This drive will take many hours though, because of the countless potential photos/scenic stops along the way! Many of the photos I took are on my Instagram which I will link here- https://www.instagram.com/traveling_feen/ . Between the wildlife in the road (countless grazing cows), and all the potential stops, you will want to take your time and enjoy the ride. Remember, it’s not often that you get to drive across the country of an area that's known to be one of the beautiful in the World!!! I will add most of the pictures I took of my journey to La Fortuna from San Jose Costa Rica to this blog post. On the next post we explore my favorite city in Costa Rica, the small volcano town of La Fortuna! Stay tuned, and Follow This Channel For The Best Travel Content!!!!
