Regeneration Project Day 1
Today we will be going out into the town of San Juan Del Sur to meet with local businesses about creating a free recycling program. Our long term goal is to create a community of businesses that act as role models in the environmental movement.
We will be offering free pick up and collection of recyclables as well as compost! San Juan Del Sur has a municipal waste collection but does not offer any form of recycling program. Only cans and bottles have a deposit value so many forms of plastics end up in the landfill.
Some recyclables will be returned for their deposits, or sold as scrap, and the money will be split between the Nicaraguan staff.
Glass bottles can be used in the construction of decorative earthen walls on our farm.
Other reusable materials will be saved for construction. For instance, styrofoam can be shredded and used as insulation.
