30 Stories - Twentyfive - DRIVING A 12 METER LONG HOME ON WHEELS
Hi steemians,
Today's post is about the many miles (or kilometers) I have driven since we started this project. I was just calculating that this year alone it must be over 20.000km. At the start I was not so sure that I could pull off driving this kind of bus through dark tunnels, over tiny bridges, steep mountains or snowy roads. However after a year of driving I must say that I feel quite confident now and that I am looking at a road more as a fun challenge instead of a scary necessity to get somewhere. The best spot to be in our bus is without a doubt in the driver's seat! I have had the pleasure of seeing so many beautiful landscapes in one year, it is crazy. This summer I started timelapsing a couple of the drives and I still need to edit them into one short movie. As soon as I am done I'll post it on Steemit. For now I want to show you some of the roads I have had the privilege to drive on.
TUNNELS IN NORWAY
Did you know that Norway has the longest tunnel in the world? This one is 24km! Whenever there is a mountain in the way of where Norwegians want to build a road and they have a choice to go over or through the mountain, they choose the latter. They always drill a tunnel. It is crazy how many tunnels there are and some of them are quite nicely lit and large enough, others are super tiny and poorly lit, sometimes they even have no lights at all. It is very hard to photograph that, so you'll just have to take my word for it.
THE NORWEGIAN FJORD MOUNTAINS
This pictures was taken at the end of quite a lot very steep zig zag roads up this hill. These are probably my favourite kind of roads, because they are the most challenging!

TINY BRIDGES
The roads on the Lofoten are not the widest ones... The truckers that are driving these roads don't seem to care though, they never slow down when they want to pass me (I still do). I guess they are used to it, but it is insane how close they come flying by. Sometimes only at a couple of centimeters.

DRIVING ON SNOW
Driving on snow with this thing is definitely next level, especially on these roads in Bulgaria, where it was almost impossible to make out where the road was. We made it up safely though :)
MY VIEW
WHAT IS THE CRAZIEST ROAD YOU HAVE EVER DRIVEN?
Cheers!
PS: For those who don't know me, I live in a converted schoolbus with my girlfriend, my dog and my two and a half year old daughter Fenna. This summer we spend four months in Norway with our hostel on wheels (which you can join) and these pictures tell the tales of our most relevant experiences. I changed my 30 day challenge's title into 30 stories, because of the feedback of @geekgirl, she made me realise that my life is quite different from the regular daily 9-5 routine and that I can share some more insights into how we spend our days. As a side-note I must say that I am still quite proud that I am persisting to write daily for 30 days straight.
