ICELAND TRIP with CAMPERVAN! Spending Christmas on Reykjavik! | Day 1!
Hi Steemit, I made this great decision about going to Iceland on December to test for all of us. Well how was it? It was COLD. AND WINDY.
But same time was it so magical? Yes, it was.
BLUE LAGOON
There's no direct flight from my country to Iceland so i preferred fly through Sweden which made me spend a couple of hundred dollars for beers in Stockholm Airport.
my view at Stockholm while drinking that down below
AND OF COURSE EATİNG SOME NACHOS
Anyway when the time comes to fly to Keflavik Airport, i was ready to go. This has been one of my dreams for so long and i was not believing to be in the plane to Iceland to be honest.
As youre just about to learn i preferred renting a campervan for my stay in Iceland because most of the guest houses and hostels were tooo way expensive and i wanted to cover my trip and hotels together.
I used campervaniceland website to rent mine and luckily didnt have any problem.

If you don't know, in Iceland almost in every city there are lots of camping places and they're mostly open all around the country. The van comes with wifi too so you can find anywhere with google maps. I mean believe me if i did it, you can do it too. Even on the roads i came across some accidents which i'll talk about it later and abou safety situations, in Iceland there are not so many bus trips you can take so it was one of the best options to rent a car and stay in hostels or rent a campervan or caravan to stay in camping grounds.
First day i bought my ticket earlier for the Blue Lagoon and it was December 25th, on Christmas day.
I had no idea how it was cold in Iceland until that day when i have to get out to go in to thermal bath.
If you don't know about Blue Lagoon it's a thermal bath in the open air which waters heath is around 38 degree. While youre ok and warm under the water, your head is freezing up in the air.
blue lagoon
me getting frozen and have no idea what's going on
me pretending i'm so happy which actually i might be a bit
me with a mask on my face feeling beautiful
This is the exit of the blue lagoon
Long story short they say you must go there and i did. Was it beautiful? YES
Was it something you must do? YES
Was the colour perfect? YES
Would you die if you dont do it? NO.
Because literally there are thousands of things you can do that will amaze you in Iceland until Blue Lagoon.
After getting relaxed a bit i head back to Reykjavik while it was still sun light time to see the city. As you know the sun was coming around 11am and sunset was around 330 pm so i didn't have much time in the sunlight.
In Iceland when you have car, everythings easy.
But even in the car renting places they warn you about how to open the car doors because WIND CAN LİTERALLY MAKE YOUR DOOR RIPPED OF. Not kidding. They're warning you about the insurance never covers this and if you check every car there, youll see usually there's a problem in every cars doors.
Reykjavik was beautiful and calm. When you come from a big city, you think it's going to be like that but after a big city mostly its like a calm town.
Unfortunately on Christmas day mostly everywhere was closed and there was NO HAPPY HOUR.
some nice scenes from the city
And of course to write the churchs name i had to check google again..
Hallgrímskirkja Church
There was a Christmas special service so i did not want to disturb people by going in with photos and stuff.
After that i found a place and drank viking beer and ate a cheeseburger for almost 40 dollars. So yes it's an expensive country. They say especially after the crisis of 2008 it became more and more difficult to live there.
But long story short for my first day, I LIKED IT.
Streets of Reykjavik
See you on day 2!
First of all,I'm glad to see you back on Steemit....second, I'm glad you got to visit Iceland....hope 1 day I'll get to do that too..
