The Sea Creatures of Baja Mexico

Ensenada, Mexico

-

I was in Ensenada, Baja California, Mexico, for a short stay at a beach house with the family. This place was ideal for some much needed rest and relaxation. Here you can swim without the water being too cold, or the danger of drowning since Ensenada is actually a huge bay with an island out front that also helps to deflect some of the oceans direct swells. It is actually a great place for small kids learning to body board or surf since most times the waves are not very big.

The beach and sand are actually very clean and in the south part of Ensenada, where we spent a few nights, there were maybe 3 families, including us, that shared the whole beach within a half mile. The neighbors were quiet and peaceful, and the house was perfect, with the back opening directly to the beach. When the low tide makes its daily retreat, it exposes a lot of sea life like some of my friends in the pictures.

Although these little sea creatures aren't very wild and I am no @papa-pepper who actually handles some seriously dangerous wild creatures sometimes, I decided to introduce my tiny friends from Baja to you. The two hermit crabs I believe are boyfriend and girlfriend. I found them clinging to each other, and they never let go, even as they tumbled and rolled gently back into the sea. My friend, Mr. Claws, was not too happy about having his picture taken. He played hard to get, but I gently coaxed him to go along so I could take his picture, telling him he had an escape clause (ha ha ha, sorry for the pun).

It was hard to say good bye to such a beautiful and serene place. The gentle lull of the waves soothing me into my dreams will be missed. The fresh morning breezes bouncing off the surf froth with their scent of salt will not greet me in the mornings, nor will there be the cry of the sea birds to rustle sleep away until we come back again.
