Glimpse of Jamaica - living with LOCALS
!
Welcome to Jamrock!
In January, we left for 3 weeks to explore (some of) the beautiful tropical island of Jamaica. We lived in a guesthouse with local people, rented a car, and explored places unknown to tourists. To us, this is the real way to travel. It's the best way to learn about another culture and to in turn discover new versions of ourselves. Take a look.

Something we noticed is that the country is very touristic, but not backpacker-friendly. It is full of resorts (filled with people too scared to leave them), but there are no hostels in sight. The transportation system isn't as clear nor cheap as South America, Asia and Europe.

Beautiful hiking day along the coast up to a secret crystal waterfall.

Some daily yoga to recenter myself every morning. I always give thanks to the universe for this physical experience, feel the sun on my skin and fill my body with positive energy for the day.

After a 2 hour drive through the jungle we found paradise - no one else was there!

And the BEST part of Jamaica (imo): THE ITAL FOOD. Rastafarians have been vegan for waaaaay longer than us. It's no wonder they master plant based cuisine. Even local grocery stores had much more vegan alternatives than at home! From where we lived, there were 6 vegan restaurants - walking distance. I'm grateful the non-vegan people with us got to eat plant-based so much because of this (and loved it!)
These are hand-carved calabash bowls from a Rasta 🌸 As part of living the most natural life possible and preserving the positive energy of the food, many avoid eating out of man-made materials such as plastic. These are made of calabashes (fruit) 😊
