A Boat Ride Through The 99 Islands In Japan - Highlights Of Traveling In JapansteemCreated with Sketch.

One of the first cities Michelle and I stayed in, while traveling in Japan was Sasebo. Here we took a boat ride through the 99 Islands, also called Kujuku-shima.

In reality there are 208 islands, 99 simply means many.

Interestingly enough, the opening scenes from The Last Samurai were filmed using the islands.

We took the boat ride on a fairly cloudy day, but the views were still magnificent. It gave the experience an authentic and mysterious touch.

The ship we were on went through a very close gap between two islands. They slowed the boat and went through cautiously.

We also passed several pearl farms. Japan produces salt water pearls, where you get 1 pearl per oyster. China is well known for their freshwater pearls, which can produce up to 25 pearls per oyster although they are not as big and the quality is slightly less than those of salt water.

Here is the boat we were on:

Ooh, so pretty. Wish I could've been there. :-D All those islands, looks like a nice place to live. I think mountains and islands are both good landscapes for anarchists. Inherently difficult areas to rob and govern, haha

Yes very pretty and much different than anything I have ever seen.
I agree, although statism is very much alive and well in Japan.

To get over our jetlag @slickwilly and I actually watched The Last Samurai at my friends house in Japan whom we were visiting and honestly the movie didnt do it justice. These island are amazing in person! We also has a perfect day, windy with a low mist, it made the stunningly green islands really stand out from the water.

Beautiful. Thanks for sharing! Japan is on my list as well! UV,RS, and followed

Thank you! 😀

Great photos. Japan is still on my todo list :)

Thanks! Good, get excited, Japan is an incredible place.

Thanks for sharing. What a cool place to visit within Japan. My favorite pic is the one going through the narrow pass , for sure. How has the food been throughout your travels there?@slickwilly

I was actually able to get up in one of the baskets for that pic.
The food was amazing . The sushi is much more simple and there were so many things to try. I have tons of content for food related posts!

Weather looks just nice for a relaxing boat ride :)

@slickwilly Wow beautiful views. I would love to visite those places one day.

Wow, I'd love to go on that boat ride. The boat looks so cool, oh yes the scenery is amazing as well. I've always wanted to go to Japan, someday hopefully :) Upvoted and followed! Thanks for sharing.

You should do it! 👍

I've been to Sasebo and went to the place the opening scene was shot in Last Samuri lol. There is a ramen joint in Sasebo called "Ra Ra Ramen" that still is one of the most delicious meals I've ever had.

Nice! Yeah there were so many ramen joints and options.
