Travel Adventures: Lanzarote
This May we took a family holiday to the beautiful volcanic island of Lanzarote. It was sort of an early birthday celebration for my 2 Gemini's but also to celebrate our 5th Anniversary!🎉
The hotel we stayed at was the 4-star Occidental Lanzarote Playa located in Costa Teguise.
The reception area upon entering the hotel was very impressive.
There were plenty of facilities including this downstairs bar where they had various entertainment acts every night:
We stayed in a family room, which was pretty basic (which we didn't mind as we didn't plan to spend much time in the room) but there are fancier rooms available!
The pool area had a heated pool and cold water pools, my main negative opinion about the pool was that the children's pool was not heated, which meant they were freezing cold and shivering after a few mins of being in the pool!
Just opposite the hotel was a quaint little volcanic beach with pockets of sand. Quite stunning with the large metamorphic rocks, which are intergrated into landscape design all over the island, there as a reminder of how the island came to exist
As it is a hot climate, various species of cacti and supplicants (mainly aloe vera) are also featured all over the island
There are plenty of excursions available, one of ours was to Texas Rancho, which featured different animals, animal shows and a swimming area
A free shuttle bus, which runs every hour, takes beach goers to a beautiful sandy beach not too far from the hotel
The second excursion we went to was go-karting, you can see the sea in the backdrop. There are actually two tracks on the island...this is the smaller one. Apparently a boy's holiday is being planned to go back and try out the bigger one! I would have liked to go on the trip up the volcano to learn more about it. I didn't go because they said it was a full day trip and my little one might get bored and tired...but it something I wouldn't mind doing if I return!
The last excursion we went on was a Submarine Safari, which I would highly recommend...perfect for all the family! Walking along the dock lined with boats and then arriving at the submarine, fills everyone with wonder and excited anticipation!
The weather was really hot in May, although some days started out cloudy and it was easy to think it wasn't going to be very sunny...after a while it was bright and sunny!
One thing to be aware of - the UV was extremely high and it's very easy to get burnt so you must be regimental with applying sunscreen. I got burnt the first day when my daughter fell asleep on me safely tucked under a towel and I didn't want to move her and disturb her to get the sunscreen...BIG MISTAKE! I was stripping for the rest of the holiday and for some weeks after!!
Thanks for reading...I hope you will join me on my next Travel Adventure
Till next time! x
Great writing, and pictures. Lanzarote is a really beatifull place!
i must say i am surprised the childrens pool was not heated, i thought that was standard.
about what was the price range for the submarine safari? that looks amaziiing!
Thanks @brakan it was very beautiful! My daughter was very upset that she couldn't play in the pool longer but I couldn't let her freeze lol...would have made more sense to make that the ONLY heated pool!!
The submarine safari was so amazing...they had the divers go around to each window and wave to the delight of the children and one of the divers even held up a happy birthday sign for one of the children which was so thoughtful!
