Monastery of the Transfiguration: A place for reflection in Bukidnon!

in #travel7 years ago

MALAYBALAY CITY, Bukidnon - Situated on a hill in the village of San Jose away from the noisy crowd is a place where one can find refuge and seek peace.
Home of the Benedictine monks, the Monastery of the Transfiguration has been a top destination for pilgrims during Holy Week in the province of Bukidnon

Locsin-Designed
The monastery is a pyramid-like structure designed by the late National Artist for Architecture Leandro Locsin (same guy who designed the Cultural Center of the Philippines). It has a huge rock at center serving as the altar. The place has a new-agey feel to it...maybe modern might be a better word.!

The Monastery of the Transfiguration Church sits atop a gently-sloping hill. The unique pyramid-shaped church is an architectural masterpiece of National Artist Leandro Locsin. Dominated by the iconic roof, the church building’s entrance is through any of the open glass doors/walls. The interior is hollow; the high, slanting ceiling terminates at the apex of the pyramid

The inside of the church is very simple and interesting at the same time. The altar is uniquely fashioned from a huge boulder and the pulpit is made of carved, polished wood. But the main draw of the Monastery of Transfiguration (aside from its design) is the miraculous image of a black and gold Madonna and Child which is said to be from Egypt
