Banderitas sa Barangay Saray - ILIGAN CITY
Banderitas or Fiesta Banners here in the Philippines symbolizes a Happy Celebration of a Festival. Banderitas is usually hand-made by creative Filipinos using recycled paper or plastic bottles which are then painted in different colors to signify a bountiful and prosperous year for the respective barangay. Banderitas are hanged in every street during festivals which makes it very interesting and attractive especially for local and non-local tourists.
In the Philippines, banderitas is considered as an important traditional and ornamental symbol for every city or in a barangay celebrating their festival for cultural, religious or non-religious practices.
The celebration of fiesta, which means feast, is one of the influences of Spain that has taken root in the Philippines. Without these creative banners, every fiesta would be dull and plain, opposing to the fun-loving personality of the Filipinos.
Even the traysikad (or tricycle) have its very own banderitas to join in the spirit of the celebration.
