Africa Calling
Hello Steemains,
For those of you who have not been to Africa, let alone the Southern tip of Africa where I stay – South Africa - it is the beauty and diversity of this country that makes it so beautiful.
An hour’s drive from many of our concrete jungles lands you into the country life. One moment you’re fighting through heavy traffic and an hour later you could be taking a Safari tracking wild animals in one of our many National Parks. We have many Nature Reserves and National Parks here in SA.
The Kruger National park is one of the largest and certainly one of my favourites. It borders four countries and in areas the borders have been lifted to increase space for the animals to roam. Really awesome.
I wanted to share a recent visit with you so you can enjoy the beauty of South Africa like I do.
The old rooster ‘cock-a-doodle-doo’ wake-up call in the mornings was replaced by the call of a Fish Eagle hunting for breakfast.
A Morning drive through the park – yes you can drive yourself- or you can take a guided tour - is sure to reveal many of the parks attractions, from plant-life to animal-life.
Check out the Lilac Breasted Roller and the the Hornbill - its not often that one gets to see birds like these up close.
Come see the Rhinoceros – they’re endangered and protected but these damn poachers – I HATE THEM. I'm sure you will enjoy seeing them in the wild before they disappear. Ellies as we commonly call them in the Park are often to be seen.
Your visit to these parks will support and encourage the further investment in the protection of these gentle giants.

I can't wait until I can get there! Hopefully by this time next year I'll get that chance. When do you suggest is the best time of year to visit?
Hi @heiditravels, anytime of the year is good for visiting South Africa due to our nice sunny weather. Low temperatures in the winter is around 18-20 degrees. Sure you get the colder spots but in general its nice. If you travel to the Mpumulanga Province even in wintr is higher than 30 Degrees Celsius. Drop us a note when you are planning to come to SA and I will give you some tips ons where to go... You can even come for a traditional South African braai (Barbecue)
Hi @heidetravels, I Agree with @jacor, anytime is a good time. For game viewing in the national Parks, Winter is better (June-August). Summer months the foliage is too thick to b able to see.

@jubilee, Well I know it commonly as a Hornbill. According to Google;
The hornbills are a family of bird found in tropical and subtropical Africa, Asia and Melanesia. They are characterized by a long, down-curved bill which is frequently brightly colored and sometimes has a casque on the upper mandible. Wikipedia
Scientific name: Bucerotidae
Higher classification: Bucerotiformes
