STEP-BY-STEP BERLIN GUIDE WITH 15 ATTRACTIONSsteemCreated with Sketch.

in #travel5 years ago (edited)

Reading other blogger posts and searching some good guides I found painful things – no one is talking about the exact guide. Everybody (or at least the biggest part) is just calling the most famous Berlin attractions and museums. You know, I can also myself find most popular Berlins museums, it’s not a big deal! But a big deal is to plan a good trip through Berlin with opportunities to see the best in the shortest time! Berlins biggest problem is that almost every object is located far away each from another. It means, that you will need a lot of time and power to see everything… but do you actually need everything? Or maybe the best?

I am living in Berlin for already 2 full years. I have explored Berlin as a tourist and as a local. Finally, I also see my friends visiting me more often and asking me to show Berlin. Looking to their reactions, wishes and thoughts I have made a maximalized full and easy Berlin guide. Now I want to share my guide also with you! Because of chaotic information on the internet, I decided to make a STEP-BY-STEP BERLIN GUIDE. Don’t waste your money and time by searching objects in different Berlin sides and trying to get there before the end of the day. Take my exact travel guide and have fun in Berlin center!

START WITH ALEXANDERPLATZ

Alexanderplatz is a central square in Berlin Mitte district. One of the most visited Berlin’s squares where you can find a lot of shops, museums, restaurants, cafes, attractions and sometimes even markets. You can get there very easily. From every Berlins corner to Alexanderplatz you are able to find public transport – S-Bahn, U-Bahn, Tram or Bus. Go through Alexanderplatz and see how busy with tourists, workers and street musicians it can be.

GO TO THE WORLD CLOCK AND FIND YOUR CITY

The World Clock is a large clock in square Alexanderplatz with 148 major cities from around the world! This clock is having 24 sides, which shows all 24 time zones on earth. It’s 10 meters high and with a diameter of 1,5 meters. It’s just a gigantic clock but it’s always so exciting to try to find your country’s main city! And when you find it – you feel special!

DON’T MISS THE BREATHTAKING VIEW OF BERLIN

In another side of Alexanderplatz stands Berlins TV Tower (in German known as Fernsehturm). It’s the tallest building in Germany where you can not only catch the best panoramic view but also sink into history and relax in the TV Towers restaurant. It is 368 meters high but with the express elevator you will reach up in just 40 seconds. Great, right? A simple adult ticket cost 16,50 EUR, but you can also buy fast view tickets, children and student tickets and also different restaurant tickets. All that you want is in Berlin!

MAKE THE MOST BEAUTIFUL PHOTOS WITH THE NEPTUN FOUNTAINE

This is one of Berlins oldest and most beautiful fountains. Located on Alexanderplatz between the TV Tower, St. Mary’s Church and the Red Town Hall. It was built in 1891 and in the middle, you can see the Roman god Neptune! The Neptune Fountaine is an amazing place, a wonderful piece of art and a strong impression.

TAKE A WALK INTO THE MIDDLE AGES

St. Mary’s Church (in German known as Marienkirche) is one of the few buildings in Berlin that date from the Middle Ages. Originally it was built in the 13th century, the exact date is not known. An interesting fact is that in the 13th century in Old Berlin were 6 churches but with years, unfortunately, survived only 2 of them -St. Mary’s Church and St. Nicholas Church. They have seen everything and now we have a chance to see them.

TAKE A LOOK TO GOVERNING MAYOR HOME

Yes, the Red Town Hall (in German known as Rotes Rathaus) is the home of the government and Senate of Berlin. Because of facade design which is made up of red bricks, government home take a name – The Red Town Hall. This house really looks very interesting in the city landscape and attracts a lot of tourists. And if you already are in Alexanderplatz, you definitely need to look to this beautiful and important place – Governing Mayor home!

FALL IN LOVE WITH THE MOST UNIQUE CATHEDRAL

Berlin Cathedral (in German known as Berliner Dom) is the most magnificent building I have ever seen in my life! I fell in love with it from the first time! Berlin Cathedral is Berlins largest and most important Protestant church. In the 15th century, it was a court church for the Prussian monarchy. It’s made in high Italian Renaissance and baroque style mix. Every detail is making Berlin Cathedral special, unforgettable and unique. And when you will see it in life, you will never forget it!

EXPLORE THE MUSEUM ISLAND

It’s a small island between 2 sides of the river Spree with 5 large museums. It’s a place with a uniqe collection of galleries and art treasures from 6000 years of human history, located in 5 temples – Pergamon Museum, Bode Museum, New Museum, Old National Gallery and Old Museum. And I am not only talking about art and historical treasures that are standing inside but also about every single building from outside! This island seems like stepping in another land… columns, parks and statues, small and big details… That all are making this island very, very special and unusual for the city center. Explore it!

GO STRAIGHT TO THE BRANDENBURG GATE

Your next aim is to reach the Brandenburg Gate (in German known as Brandenburger Tor) with a nice walk straight through the city! You will need to go just straight on the street – Unter den Linden. It’s a very nice walk along Humboldt University, Statue of King Frederick, different museums (like German Historical Museum, Madame Tussaud’s Wax Museum), cafes, restaurants, and souvenir shops. During this walk, I always take ice cream and enjoy the day because I know, that at the end of this walk the Brandenburger Gate is already waiting for me! Brandenburger Gate is the most famous landmark and symbol of Berlin. If you haven’t seen it, you haven’t been in Berlin!

FEEL THE TOUCH OF HEARTBREAKING HISTORY

Maybe Memorial to the Murdered Jews of Europe isn’t the most romantic attraction but I think that everyone needs to visit this place and feel this heartbreaking history. This memorial is reminding us about 6 million Jewish victims of the Nazi Holocaust and we can’t deny this, it is our history! It’s not only Germans but whole worlds history! This memorial is located in a square not far from the Brandenburg Gate and it’s made from 2711 rectangular blocks. All blocks are different size and height, but going through them you are feeling like in a trap. It took 17 full years to complete this memorial and give you the feeling of heartbreaking history!

DON’T FORGET TO VISIT THE REICHSTAG

In the other side of Brandenburg Gate you can find the Reichstag, also called German Bundestag, what is a current home of the German parliament. Built in 1894 and survived 1933 fire, it’s nowadays one of the most important attractions in Berlin. The Reichstag attracts tourists and locals with its modernized glass cupola with a view to Berlins center but it wouldn’t be so attracting if there wouldn’t be so hard to get inside! You need to set an appointment and be ready to prove your identity! The Reichstag is one of the main and most important buildings in Germany full with Germans ‘’biggest heads’’. It requires a strong security check and it’s totally understandable, right?!

ENJOY BERLIN’S LARGEST AND MOST POPULAR CITY PARK

Tiergarten is Berlin’s green lung. Ideal place for walking, laying on lawns and relaxing in the sun or even jogging. The park takes about 210 hectares and is located near Berlin center. Walking through Berlin you will see people rushing but stepping in Tiergarten is like stepping in a calm zone. You only want to enjoy this place and relax! It’s a beautiful large park in which you can find many different roads and get to the next amazing attraction!

CLIMB UP TO MEET THE GOLDEN ELSA

Straight opposite the Brandenburg Gate, you can (and you need to) visit the Victory Column (in German known as Siegessäule). It’s a Berlin monument – the symbol of Prussian military victory in the 19th century. Interesting, that in the beginning Victory Column didn’t have a bronze statue of Victoria, it was added later. But Berliners very often this monument calls ‘’The Golden Elsa’’ or just ‘’Elsa’’. To get up and meet Elsa by yourself, you need to beat 285 steps! Be patient and climb to the top. Entry costs only 3 EUR, but the view of Berlin is worth much more!

TAKE A GOOD MEAL NEARBY THE RIVER

After so long day the only thing I am always thinking of to eat something! And there comes my food-recommendation! Go from the Golden Elsa away along the river Spree to side, where is located Hauptbahnhof. There is a wonderful road with a lot of nature and modern architecture buildings but right before Moltke Bridge (in German known as Moltkebrücke) you will see a beautiful house with a big garden full of tables and benches – Zollpackhof. And you are in the right place! Restaurant in a beautiful place with friendly prices! What can be better!

RELAX AT THE END OF THE DAY WITH A GLASS OF WINE OR BEER

And our last STEP-BY-STEP GUIDE attraction is going to Hauptbahnhof. But don’t rush! The last perfect thing to enjoy this day in Berlin fully is to take a drink laying in comfortable summer chair with good music and view to the river, different bout tours and Hauptbahnhof – the main and biggest railway station in Berlin! Last time I spent there 3 hours just sitting and having such a good and relaxing time! You just need to try it! It’s a happy ending of this tour. And when you are ready to get back to your hotel, just go to Hauptbahnhof and buy a ticket! Just don’t get lost, because this station is having 5 floors with public transport. One more impressive Berlins building.

SUMMARY

In the end, I am also adding a map with the way from Alexanderplatz to Hauptbahnhof. As you will see in the map is shown that it takes only 9,4 km and about 2 hours to go through everything, but it’s never happening like that! NEVER! Remember that you will explore every place, take photos, wonder with open mouth and enjoy the day without rushing! Following my instructions will give you the maximal number of attractions in one day! This guide isn’t hard or complicated, you will also not get lost! I have optimized every single detail to make this guide complete. And you know, my friends and also unknown people were always satisfied with my STEP-BY-STEP GUIDE. But if you still have some questions – you are welcome to ask me! I am always open to help and give some great tips!
