Announcing My South & Central America Plans For 2018! - 'The Travelling Artist' 💫
Finally I Will Be Backpacking Around South & Central America
After years of talking about it, I am now going to make my dream of travelling around South America a reality!

February this year I am going to fly to Brazil. I will travel alone around Brazil for about 6 weeks before visiting Uruguay and then onto Argentina. After that I will gradually make my way up the continent, heading towards Central America, visiting as many South American countries as I can.
Above image; My photo of my first few guidebooks that I have bought for backpacking. I never used to be a fan of travel guide books, especially lonely planet as I preferred to go my own way and explore towns and cities with minimal guidance, instead of following somebody else's script word-for-word . But for this next solo journey I have a feeling these books will be important.
My plan is to also backpack and travel around Central America. I want to travel slowly on this trip and not rush any of it. I think this is the best way to travel from experience. And form there, depending on whether I can do well with my blogging here on steemit, and with my own artwork as I produce more quality content on the road and try to sell my art, my plan after that is to go from Central America to The Caribbean. From The Caribbean I have some further plans to fly to Eastern Europe and travel around that region, making my way towards Scandinavia, and then travelling around the Nordic countries, checking out the incredible landscape and learning about Viking history!
Steemit, Blogging And Art, An Important Focus
I am already thinking of putting most of my energy into blogging on Steemit instead of all the other social media platforms as I travel. I think posting on Steemit will be a key area of focus for my trip, but I have to make sure I put the time and effort into it. My intention is to maintain discipline as I travel, and I aim to complete 2-3 hours minimum of creative content each day, at least 5 days per week throughout the duration of my trip. I know how easy it is to become 'lazy' when backpacking, especially when there is so much to see and do. To combat this, I will plan to begin working on my content as soon as I wake up each morning, creating a new habit and get as much done in the allotted time each day, before I head out to explore my surroundings.
This will be my biggest backpacking trip yet if I can do it all! I will take lots of high quality photos and videos as you would expect from a modern day traveller, but with a little bit extra, as I'm not just a traveller, but a 'Travelling Artist'
'The Travelling Artist'
Not only will I be taking lots of photos and videos, but my plan is to also draw/sketch people in the places I visit, and also to paint the landscape 'en plein air' in watercolours or oils, depending on what I can take with me. I will also be documenting this on Steemit for you to see!
Above image; This is a photo of my creative equipment I will be taking with me. I am considering taking oils and my Strada Easel with me so I can paint in both watercolours and oils, but I havn't decided on that just yet. Watercolours and pencils/pens alone should be suitable for this trip, and will be easier to paint and travel with long term.
My equipment includes a Nikon D3300 camera, a tripod, sketchbooks, watercolours, brushes, (also considering oil paints), plenty of pencils, and a microphone for audio recording. I intend on making my best quality content yet as I work to improve my skills in all areas of Art, Writing, Photography, Video and Blogging.
I am also thinking about creating exclusive audio content to be made available as a free download on my website.
Here you can check out my most recent travel blog post from my trip to Nara, Japan.
I'm really excited about this year already. I have just 2 weeks left of working as a bar tender before I'm free to work more on my creative content and begin travelling again!
Check out my future posts here on Steemit if you are interested in seeing how my 'Travelling Artist' journey unfolds.
Thank you for taking the time to read my posts. I appreciate any/all of the support!
Wow! Great idea! Remember to visit Venezuela, it is a country with a lot of conflict, but you will surely find a lot of inspiration. It is a nation with incomparable beauty. Good trip!
Thank you for the comment! I think I will visit Venezuela, I do want to, but I have heard it isn't the best place to visit at the moment thanks to the chaos caused by communism, and some places are not safe at all for a traveller to visit. What areas would you suggest are good to visit at this time, that are considered 'safe'?
The best place you can visit is Los Roques National Park. It is a paradisiacal archipelago in the Caribbean Sea, it is very beautiful and visited by many international tourists. If you want to know more you can visit this page http://los-roques.com/
Thank you for the information, I will definitely bookmark that place and try to check it out! Would you say it's best to fly into Venezuela, or is it ok to go over the border from another country?
Muchas gracias!
Specifically to go to Los Roques you need to make a small plane flight from Caracas to get to the archipelago. Caracas is considerably far from the border, so the ideal is to take a flight to Caracas. Crossing the border through Brazil is also an option, you will pass through La Gran Sabana, which is another very famous destination, but the route is lake. The best thing is to consult with a travel agency and decide what is best suited to your plans.
Thank you very much for that information! I could always fly to Caracas airport, and just fly directly from there to the islands. But I also like the idea of crossing the border through Brazil! I will look into this. :)
Perfect. Good trip! I will be looking forward to your next publications. ;)
Muchas Gracias! :)
