Got my phone stolen: The How, The Calm, and The Prevention
Last night around 830, as I was looking at Google Maps, three kids on a scooter snatched my phone out of my hand and zoomed off into the night. This is in Indiranagar, a relatively developed and busy neighbourhood of Bangalore. Cops were not helpful, so I doubt I'll see that phone again.
In a time like this, I find empathy calming. These kids probably inhabit one of the few slum areas around Indiranagar. I hope they spend the money on their education, or paying for surgery for their dog, or donate to an orphanage. Rather than what I think they did, which is get super sloshed. A guy can hope.
I've heard about motor thievery occuring in Lisbon, the UK, and Thailand. So it must be pretty common.
Couple of tips:
- Pretty obvious: If you have a bag with a thick strap, leave your valuables in there as much as you can.
- When you use your phone, for texting or changing or so, you can leave it in the bag so it isn't isolated and reachable.
- Travel in a group when you can, and face each other when you stop
- Use multiple trackers (not just the app attached to your phone)
- Lock your phone so it can't be turned off immediately
Have a wonderful weekend and stay safe, everyone.
Hey bro sorry to hear about your phone. Same type of thievery is pretty common all around the world. I hope you can get a replacement one ASAP!
On a brighter note, did you watch Khabib vs Iaquinta? Rose vs JJ? what are your thoughts?
