in #travel7 years ago (edited)

While many tourists try to avoid the monsoon season to travel to India, there are a few Indian destinations which become downright spectacular during the monsoon season!

It is not just because of the affordable prices of accommodation as well as transportation but these destinations actually gain natural beauty from the monsoons.

Monsoon plays an integral part in the heart of Indian population. It is a harbinger of hope especially for the large Indian population which still relies on agriculture. I would today, like to share with you 3 different places which should definitely be visited in India during the monsoons!

Valparai, Tamil Nadu:

  • While you would not find this place, in the tourist guides of India but during the monsoons, it becomes a must visit. It consists of tropical evergreen forests. The town is also surrounded by vast tea plantations. That is why during the monsoon season the greenery is a sight to behold. In addition to that, the place becomes host to innumerable waterfalls which just add to the beauty of the place. When you couple this with cheap accommodation during the monsoon, this is a place which is must visit for it's natural beauty.

Sindhudurg, Maharashtra:

  • If you're looking for a replacement of Goa in the monsoon season, this is the place to be. It consists of old Fort which is adjoining the coastline. The sites from the Fort are pretty amazing. Along with it, you would be able to find virgin beaches which do not have a lot of crowd. This is one of the most lesser explored tourist attractions in India. It also has a pretty important place in the Maharashtrian history. Due to this very reason, you would be able to find plenty of palaces around. If you want to explore further, you can visit the mango orchards in the area. The mangoes from this particular area are exported all over the world.

Phalodi, Rajasthan:

  • This place holds the unique geographical structures in its vicinity. It has a number of different salt lakes as well as sand dunes and also you can explore the tribal villages around. One of the unique points about this particular places that in spite of being in the desert state, it has greenery all the year around. That is why, if you're visiting it specifically in the monsoons, you would be able to see the greenery as well as the salt lakes in their full glory. In addition to that, you can easily explore the local life by visiting any of the tribal villages.

So, instead of skipping a trip to India due to the monsoons, do pay a visit to the lesser-known tourist destinations which are in their full glory during the monsoons.

Great post. I've been living out of a backpack for over 10 years. I have shied away from India, but have been all over Asia in general, especially South East Asia; but next year I'm definitely going to spend at least three months in this huge country.

I consider myself a budget traveler/ backpacker. So India is right up my ally and I appreciate the info you have posted. Are you a traveler as well? Are you from India?

I'm new here on Steemit, I found my niche. Travel Reports! from a budget perspective. My latest is about where I am now, Lake Atitlan, Guatemala. I've gotten very good reviews on my high quality reports and my to the point writing style. Here is a link to my latest report if you're interested. https://steemit.com/travel/@world-travel-pro/world-travel-report-paradise-hot-spot-lake-atitlan-guatemala

Tomorrow I'll be reporting on Panama, and between you and I, it gets pretty terrible reviews. I speak from truth, not about how great everything is like many other travel posts. I think you will enjoy this aspect as well.

Keep up the great posts! I'll certainly be following you to learn more about India and your perspectives. Up-voted as well. Have a great day! -World Travel Pro
