ROUTE 66 from Chicago via L.A. to San Francisco - Part 2 🇩🇪 / 🇬🇧
Und so waren wir, nach unserem "Warm up" in Chicago dann auch bald unterwegs auf dem Highway, der so viele Geschichten schrieb, dem Inbegriff des "American dream".
Nun, zuerst ging es aber in Umgekehrter Richtung mit dem Bus nach Middlebury, wo wir unser brandneues Mietmobil in der Fabrik abholten, um es dann für den Vermieter Roadbear nach San Francisco zu bringen.
Ist es nicht ein Prachtstück, unser "Coachman Leprechaun", 28" (zirka 8,5m) lang und irgendwo zwischen 5 und 6 Tonnen schwer. Mit diesem Kampfgewicht und dem 6,8 Liter V8 Motor schluckte er allerdings locker 31 Liter auf 100 km.
Ehe es dann richtig losging, mussten allerdings noch eine Stärkung her: Wir kehrten in ein typisches Amish Essenhaus ein, wo wir vorzüglich speisten.
On the road:
Ein typisches Bild, welches uns auf diesem Teilabschnitt öfter begegnete: Wir fahren auf der alten Route 66, gleich daneben liegt der Interstate.
Eines der ersten Highlights für Filmfans: Das Städtchen Joliet, berühmt durch die Blues Brothers, die das heute leerstehende (Old) Joliet Prison auf die Leinwand gebracht haben.
Einen letzten Insassen scheint Old Joliet Prison noch zu haben. 😉
Anschliessend ging es weiter nach Pontiac, wo wir die Nacht auf einem Walmart Parking verbrachten. Gut zu wissen: Viele Walmart Geschäfte bieten "Overnight Parking" für Wohnmobile an. Nun, die Leute sind clever, denn wo man steht, kauft man meist auch ein.
Am Morgen fanden wir einen Denny's in Pontiac. Das soll jetzt keine Werbung sein, aber ich liebe deren Breakfast. Die hatten sogar ein 55+ Frühstück für den alten Mann.....
Die nächste Etappe führt uns von Pontiac nach Saint Louis. Verpasst sie nicht!

And so, after our "warm up" in Chicago, we were soon on the road on the highway, which wrote so many stories, the epitome of the "American dream".
Well, first we went the other way round by bus to Middlebury IN, where we picked up our brand new rental car at the factory and brought it to San Francisco for the rental company Roadbear.
Isn't it a beauty, our "Coachman Leprechaun", 28" (about 8,5m) long and somewhere between 5 and 6 tons heavy. With this combat weight and the 6.8 litre V8 engine he easily swallowed 31 litres per 100 km.
But before we really got going, we had to get some strength: We stopped at a typical Amish Essenhaus, where we dined excellently.
On the road:
A typical picture, which we often encountered on this section: We drive on the old Route 66, right next to it is the Interstate.
One of the first highlights for film fans: The small town of Joliet, famous for the Blues Brothers, who brought the now empty (Old) Joliet Prison to the screen.
Old Joliet Prison seems to have one last inmate. 😉
Afterwards we went on to Pontiac, where we spent the night on a Walmart Parking. Good to know: Many Walmart shops offer "Overnight Parking" for camper vans. Well, the people are clever, because where you stand, you usually shop.
In the morning we found a Denny's in Pontiac. This is not supposed to be a commercial now, but I love their breakfast. They even had a 55+ breakfast for the old man.....
The next stage takes us from Pontiac to Saint Louis. Don't miss it!

Wie cool:) Das Wohnmobil ist zwar mehr ein Wohnkreutzer und man braucht ein eigenen Tanklaster der ein begleitet aber ich glaube der Sprit ist da etwas günstiger hier xD
Mich würde ja mal intressiren wie das Teil von innen aussieht :)
Ja, das war schon ein Schiff für europäische Verhältnisse. Auf den Stellplätzen in den USA zählten wir meist aber zu den Kleineren.
