Shopping in Taiwan
Shopping Along the Street
When traveling around Taiwan for a fun experience, organize your visit according to what you want to do. Shopping is never boring in Taiwan from large malls to very small booths you will journey into the unusual side of shopping.
Catching The Morning Cab
To have a great morning shop for breakfast first, and ensure you have the energy to continue all day long. You can start by catching a taxi cab or just walk around town. Don't forget to have your hotel cards ready so you can get back. Also consider having some hand written cards or notes to show your taxi driver. Learn how to say thank you in Taiwanese Mandarin, xiè xie is pronounced syeh-syeh since you will say it all day long.

Finding The Right Ingredients
Night markets can provide some different experiences since you can shop for small gifts, clothes, herbal medicine or fruits, and vegetables. Fresh fish and food stalls are abundant, come hungry and try a taste of Taiwan, you will be glad you did! There is also rare specialty booths for jade and jewelry along the way. Taipei and Kaohsiung will provide you with the best night market experience, but every major town along the high speed train route from Taipei to Kaohsiung have great opportunities for night market shopping.
Shopping For Lunch and New Outfit
Another interesting area to shop is the main train station in in Taipei. Here they have treats, restaurants, clothing stores, and souvenirs for every budget. There is three levels starting with the top area above the ground level with small shops, open booths, and restaurants.
Also along the street of Hsinchu City there are areas of town where morning markets allow you buy fresh local vegetables, and fresh local poultry, fresh seafood or red meat products. Here you can experience the sights, and sounds of normal people going about their traditional morning shopping rituals that go back hundreds of years.

Shopping at the Supermarket
Shopping in Taiwan’s supermarkets can be very exciting. You will see exotic fruits such as the famous durian and local vegetables, fresh fish unique to the area, and even live crabs and sea creatures you have never seen before just back from sea. In Taiwan people have high expectations of fresh seafood, and being still alive will allow them to sell at a higher price.

Let's go shopping, and explore the markets.
The night markets are my favorite!
I love the crab video, and it helps people understand what you are talking about. Taiwan is a very nice place to live, and I like it very much.
Yes and so easy to get around. Those cards are very helpful too.
The crabs were so lively I could barely hold on to them.
Wow... even durians in the supermarket. I've not seen that when I visited but that was quite a long time ago.
Yes, you can smell them a long distance before you get to them. Lol!
thank you for introducing Taiwan. but for the record, durians are mostly (or entirely?) imported from southeast Asia.
Thank you @deanliu The photo of the durians is a local supermarket in Hsinchu.
no problem at all! :) and for anyone who needs more info, here is the official "Time for Taiwan" page:
