Driving across Costa Rica in the WRONG direction

We were supposed to drive south.... instead we drove north.

We got to San Jose in Costa Rica, but our journey wasn't over yet! After 8 hours of flying, we still had another 6 hour drive south from the capital city. We were going to Pavones, a small town in very Southern Costa Rica about 30 minutes from the Panamanian border. When we get there, all we plan on doing is surfing, all day everyday!

Anyway, instead of driving south, somehow we ended up driving North, in the complete opposite direction of our Airbnb in Pavones! We were just so desperate to get to the beach that we didn't really check to make sure that the GPS in the car was guiding us to the right place.

A really beautiful beach we found and drove past twice (before and after realizing what was up). There was even a little break that you could maybe surf with a long board!

Thankfully we figured it out, although about an hour and a half into the trip. We finally emerged from the mountain roads and saw the Pacific for the first time, when we realized the ocean was on the wrong side of the road! We turned around, and got ready for our now 9 hour trip to our place down south. And the sun was setting so it was going to be in the dark!

Even though we didn't plan on this, we got to see more of Costa Rica and eat more food than we would have, so we're all glad it happened!
