Torre de Belém, Lisboa
Build in the 16th century, in the time Portugal was a maritime worldleader. The tower was build during the reign of king JohnII on a small island on the Tagus river to protect Lisbon, finished in 1519.
The tower has 4 levels,
17 cannon protection.
A sculpture of the first Rhinoceros depicted in Western European art.
Build in loacal limestone from the Lisbon area, largely in the Manueline style.
A look at the Atlantic ocean from the roof.
