Sunset Hike - Hawaii
Greetings fellow Steemians! One of my favourite things to do is hike up a mountain and watch a soothing sunset from the top. I make it a point to do this at least twice in a month and being in Hawaii, you have plenty of options for a small hike with spectacular views. It was a Monday morning it had been a while now since I had done a sunset hike so I dropped in a message to a friend in the morning and asked her if she wanted to join me for a sunset hike this evening and the plan was finalised instantly!
We left our home at 4pm and drove to the road head. It was a clear day with sun shining bright on our heads. We had carried water, some energy bars, dry fruits, torches and sandwiches made by my friend. She makes awesome sandwiches! We reached the parking spot in 45 minutes and in no time we hit the trail.
The trail starts off in a dense and a beautiful forest. It's always cooler down here because of the dense cover of the trees. It's a constant uphill from here on.
The trail takes us up the forest giving spectacular views of Oahu behind us.
The sun was going down slowly, loosing it's power by the minute and the colours that the fading sun left on the skies were beautiful!
We came across staircases with railings which were completely covered with dense thorny vegetations. The steps were not visible so we had to feel the stairs with our legs and take the next step. Bushwhacking our way through it, we made it across with a few scrapes on our legs. That's the natures way of making love to you!
20 minutes walk from here got us to the top. We were almost in time for the sunset. We sat facing the sun and quietly saw it dive into the ocean below. After putting efforts into a hike, such rewarding views make it all worth the effort. It was getting cold so we put our windproofs on
We ate the delicious sandwiches which tasted even better up there and we started heading back down. It had gotten completely dark by now and flashlights were our eyes. We were sure about the trail that's why we went up at this time. The only difficult section during our descent was the staircases with vegetations but we made it down safely in an hour!
Get outside! Watch the sunrise, watch the sunset. How does it make you feel? Does it make you feel big or tiny? Because there's something good about feeling both! Follow on for more adventure! Cheers!
Wow, what a view from the top, well worth the hike! Great post with some awesome photos. Have you lived in Hawaii all your life? I wish I lived somewhere as stunning as this! Living the dream of many a soul.
Some of those pictures look as though you are taking risks....😳
