ChinaLog 001: The hottest day in 145 years, literally
Although this post is a start to a section of my blog about my experiences here in China (of which there are many and I'm really looking forward to sharing them), it doesn't have too much to do with China specifically. This is more of a weather report I suppose.
When it gets to 40.9 degrees celcius in a huge metropolis, it becomes really hard to handle. Especially with the humidity close to 100% and concrete on the brink of catching fire.
Today was the hottest day in recorded history (at least as long as they've been tracking weather). The government issued the first ever red heatwave alert, under which all outdoor work must be suspended. No wonder, cause if you're out long enough, your shoes start becoming one with the street.

Since I'm right in the middle of it here and everything we do is scheduled and based around this heat (you wouldn't want to move around during the day at all), I can't help but think about the climate change, and specifically the people who, despite all evidence, still manage to find ways to deny it. This to me seems absolutely ridiculous, but what's worse is that if nothing's done to remedy this, the results could really be catastrophic.
When I walk out and it feels like a sauna (literally, nothing poetic about), I can't help but think that we, as a species, allowed this to happen somehow. I may be wrong. Maybe you guys could share some opinions in the comment section?!
