Chasing the full moon on Sandhamn

in #travel8 years ago

Sandhamn is one of the islands furthest out in the archipelago of Stockholm, Sweden. With only access by boat and bikes and electric scooters allowed as personal transportation the island is usually very serene. Trying to capture this serenity is usually not that difficult, as soon as the day tourists have left with the last ferry for the day the entire island just settles in.

This summer was no exception, but in addition we got some incredible evening light just as the full moon was approaching. Being hours away from big cities means that the air is clear and relatively free from light spill, even though there’s civilization on the island.

I got my moon shot with a Sony A7R II and a Canon 70-200 F/2.8 L IS fully zoomed in and set up on a tripod, but what I’ll really remember from this summer was the blue hour on Trouville beach and Alexanderudden. If you ever go to Stockholm, make sure to plan a visit to Sandhamn to experience the island and the archipelago yourself. While it’s possible to go on a day trip from the city, spend a night at one of hotels or bring a tent and stay at one of the beaches to fully take it in.
