REASONS TO DEFEND OUR PLANET: 1. Beautiful Nature. ISLA DE LOS MICOS-AMAZONAS.

Hi Steemians, it's Natalie with a new post, in this opportunity I decided to talk about reasons to take care of our HOME, EARTH PLANET.

As you already know I'm student of Enviromental Engineering and I really love nature (If you don't know it, it's because you haven't read my "introduceyourself" post yet, so go ahead and read it my great friend) and I had the wonderful fortune to be born in Colombia, a country full of nature and different landscapes that seem to be taken out of a fairy tale movie.

Today I'll talk about The monkey Island, and no, I won't talk about the videogame that bears this name, but about a beautiful place Located on Amazonas River near to the border with Ecuador, Brasil and Perú, a place FULL of monkeys. If you think that you already saw monkeys before let me tell you two things, the first one is that i'm quite sure that you have never seen squirrel monkeys (unless you've already visited the place), because they only exist in the Tropical Forest of Central and South America, and the second one, if you looked at them, was in a cage (probably),but in these Island THEY'RE LOOSE and love to be visited by humans because they bring delicous mangoes.

These funny name had a reason, these charming animals are very small and very beautiful.

Squirrel Monkey is the common name to call them but its real name is Saimiri, a genus of Monkeys which belong to the Cebidae family one of five which exist into the group of "New World monkeys" as they were called when they were discovered, Saimiri is the only genus on the subfamily Saimiranae. The name means "Small Monkey", Sai is for monkey and mirim is for small, I know, this people was so creative.

They usually measure 25 cm from the top of the head to the base of their tale, they have a long tail so they are more than double of this size if you include it.

"Love you human friend."

They are so territorials and live in groups from 35 up to 50 individuals but in this amazing island exist around of 4000 tiny monkeys, they eat fruits, insects and other little animals but they also love mangoes, if you visited them take them a lot of mangoes you're going to need it.

"¿Did you bring us mangoes human?"

Places like this were created to protect wildlife, the black squirrel monkey and the Central American squirrel monkey are threatened, two species from the five known, they were listed as vulnerable by the IUCN ( International Union for Conservation of Nature), the main threat facing these beautiful animals is the decline of their habitat due to anthropogenic activities. The squirrel monkey is an important specie in the illegal wildlife trade because it's preferred as a pet.

As humans we are the elder brothers, we must watch over protection and care of all other species, it's easy to get lost in the triviality of life and practicality can make us indifferent but when you look into the eyes of these precious friends it's easy to return to be a human being.

Remember that every animal on this planet plays an important role, they have as much right to live here as we do.
