The Chocolate Hills
During the dry season, they turned brown like chocolates and green on any other season. Hence the name, Chocolate Hills.
The Chocolate Hills in Carmen, Bohol, Philippines are a collection of more or less 1,268 hills. The hills are shaped like a cone and are about 30 to 50 meters high.
There is no exact explanation yet how the hills are formed but it was believed that they were formed from the ancient coral limestone reef. Through time, they were shaped by both water and wind erosion. They were also legends behind these hills. The locals believed in the legend that the hills were formed by the two giants who were in a feud. They threw rocks and sand at each other but later ended up as friends. Another legend is about the love story of Arogo who fell in love with Aloyo. When Aloyo died, Arogo was so miserable. He did not stop from crying and Arogo's dried tears were formed Chocolate Hills.
Last 2008, the Chocolate Hills was listed as one of the nominees in the UNESCO World Heritage.
