Sigiriya - Sri Lanka, the ancient city untouched by ancient times

in #travel7 years ago

Sri Lanka is known for its tea, coffee, coconut and cinnamon plantations, incredible natural beauty, beautiful sandy beaches, tropical forests and remains of history. Ever since the distant past, Sri Lanka is the center of Buddhist religion and culture.

Sri Lanka is rich with beautiful and luxurious hotels in which you can afford an Ayurveda massage, a cake with dinner, fish, seafood and, of course, rice. But the first thing that you need to do as soon as you step into this place is to visit the stone fortress of Sigiriya.

Sigiriya is a monolithic building in Sri Lanka. Since 1982, Sigiriya has been under the protection of UNESCO. The "Lion Rock" is the most visited attraction on this site. Sigiriya is located in the heart of the island. The translation of the word "Sigiriya" means "the lion's rock" and this wonderful wonder of nature seems to be rising from the ground. It was built in the 5th century. The most striking part of this attraction is the central rock (Stone Fortress) that stretches over a 200 meter wooded plateau.

The stone fortress is located in the heart of Sri Lanka. Numerous canals filled with water, walls and water gardens represent all the remains of the ancient ancient city located on both sides of the rock. The great stone "lion's pawns" still stand at the top of the stairs leading to the top.

We enter in to the throat of the lion. In Sinhala, we say 'giri' for throat. Sinha for lion. So it became Sinhagiri with the meaning of the throat of the lion. Later it became "Sigiri".
