Marrakech
You may have heard a lot about Morocco as a touristic site. Of course Marrakesh stands as the most attracting direction with its charming nights and magic places and gatherings all around the city where different aspects of traditional Moroccan culture coexist with other forms of modernity.
People from the Golf countries, France, Germany, Russia, America and other places come to enjoy the mild weather and animals' tamers. Tourists also enjoy traditional food served in Berber restaurants all over the cities and the villages.
This article shows what makes Marrakesh distinguished among other touristic sites and some of the best places to enjoy in there.
As tourist, one should have some historical information on the city. The first time to set a foot there will be the first time see very long big wall built of the mud. These wall are called now the "Medina" - the traditional or the old city-. It's in fact so old since it comes back to Al Moravids' dynasty. In the 12th century, Marrakesh was the capital city of the Al Moravids' country. The famous mosque Alkoutoubia was built in the same era as a center for Muslim religious practices in the city.
Not only religion and culture, history says that Marrakesh was a political as well as economical imperial city among the four imperial cities in Morocco (Meknes, Rabat, Marrakesh and Fez).
You may have also heard of Lmnara which is a very old building surrounded by a large garden of olives and palm trees in an images that mixes between the Sahraoui civilization and the internal one. Menara comes back to the Almohad rule in the 12th century. In front of the building, there is big lake as the image shows.
If you like shopping, Marrakesh has a lot of markets including popular, modern, traditional and touristic ones. Everything is sold in there. Most of the Europeans that comes to Marrakesh buy things that has to do with Moroccan traditions like "Jelaba" and the carpets as in the following pictures.
One of the green places to be in while you are in Marrakesh is the Majorelle Gardens. What a lovely calm place and green place with very attracting colors as the images will show. These gardens were in the beginning just a farm of the Jacque Majorelle who was a painter. Majorelle dedicated his last years to his gardens to grow them up the way he imagined them.
Close to Lkoutoubia, the UNESCO has cited Jmaa Lfna as a Human Heritage that must be preserved. Quite none visits Marrakesh without having a look on the variety of popular culture shown there. Snake charmers, musicians, gatherings, food, and the different faces of the Moroccan culture.
Here is a photo of the gathering. When you hear gathering, it's mainly about story telling and jokes making people laugh and break the hectic days in Marrakesh.
These are what is called here "Garab" or the one who sells water in a very traditional manner with very simple materials.
I do not claim that I said everything, but I hope I enlightened your knowledge about Marrakesh. If you have any question, please drop it down in a comment.
