Travel Diaries - #Throwbacks - Trip to Amman

in #travel15 hours ago

A day before I wrote about the Jordanian ways of dining and today, I want to share some parts of Amman. It was hubby's work trip and for some of these near-by destinations I always tag along with him. After work we normally extend our stay for 2 to 3 days and then go around the place. His work meetings normally get over by 4 so after that the evenings are free to move around. This trip I remember we had extended by 2 days and we could go around lot of places in the 2 days and also during the evening times on work days.

There were some very interesting things that I saw in Amman. The whole city is on the hills, it looks beautiful to watch from far, which also means the roads go up and walking on the roads is quite an exercise. The other thing which interested me was the Baptism Site - Bethany Beyond the Jordan, I had not known about this place. It was suggested by some local friends and good we visited the place; it was worth it. It is the Baptism site of Jesus Christ, where he was baptized by John. The place is on the border of Palestine, and as a border there is a narrow stream flowing between these 2 Countries. Where on each side you find people sitting and enjoying the environment. It was such a peaceful place, unlike other borders where you find police and guards with guns, it was nothing like that. Before entering the site, there was security and police who would do a thorough check and then let you enter inside. After that you will not find them. Probably they want to maintain the sanctity of this holy place.

The most disappointing part of this journey was visiting the Dead Sea. I always wanted to see it, but when we reached there, I was not very happy to see it, because there was so much of trash around. I was expecting it to be clean and nice but it was the opposite. Anyways it was on my checklist and it got done so I was happy, else I would always be curious about the place. Our driver told us later that if we would have driven further down the road, we would have got a cleaner beach. But we did not have much of time so we had to settle for that. It was freezing cold but I wanted to experience it, so I pulled up my pants and soaked my feet in the water.

We visited the Amman Citadel, it was something similar to the Acropolis of Athens.

The Roman Amphitheater

Jordan was once a part of the Roman empire and hence we see lot of Roman ruins in this place.

We visited the King Abdullah Mosque, which is another famous place to visit in Amman. If I would have not been staying in Oman I would have said that it was a very beautiful Mosque, but here in Oman we have some of the most beautiful Mosques so this in comparison I found it just ok.

We visited the Jordan Museum in Amman, which was very insightful, showcasing the history of Jordan.

This is what I mentioned in my earlier blog, their traditional dining ways where they sit down and eat from one dish.

The one thing that I missed visiting was the Petra City of Jordan, It's an archeological site, the place is also called as the Rose city as the color of the sandstone found there is kind of pink. It was a 6 hours journey to and fro and we did not have that much time at hand. We would have needed an extra day for that. Probably next time we can only do Petra.

Thank you for visiting my blog. 👼🏻👼🏻💖💖🌹🌺🌸
