THINGS TO DO IN BANGKOK

Bangkok is the capital of Thailand, one of the coolest destinations of the world. There are so many things to do in Bangkok that you can spend a whole week and yet it won’t seem enough. Without further ado let’s start our list

THE GRAND PALACE

The Grand Palace is a complex of buildings at the heart of Bangkok, Thailand. The palace has been the official residence of the Kings of Siam since 1782. The place is gorgeous and totally instagram appropriate. It is a very beautiful place and you should definitely include this in your to-do list.
Address: Na Phra Lan Rd, Phra Nakhon, Bangkok, 10200, Thailand
Hours: 8:30AM–3:30PM

KHAO SAN ROAD
!
Khao san road is a a short street in central bangkok situated in the Banglamphu area of (Phra Nakhon district) about 1 km north of the Grand Palace and Wat Phra Kaew. It is the Mecca for backpackers. It offers cheap accommodation, ranging from "mattress in a box" style hotels to reasonably priced 3-star hotels. Also, there are several cafes, pubs and bars where backpackers meet to discuss their travels. It’s a super fun place to hang out all day and night and everything here is unbelievably cheap. Khao san road is famous for the wide range of food it offers- local delicacies, exotic items etc. It’s a backpacker’s heaven where you can find liberally everything including handicrafts, paintings, clothes, local fruits, unlicensed CDs, DVDs, books, and many useful backpacker items at a very cheap price.

THE BUDDIST TEMPLES
Thailand is a traditionally Buddist country. Although, Bangkok is an extremely busy city there are many relaxing Thai temples right in the middle of the town.
Wat Pho is situated in the Phra Nakhon District, Bangkok, Thailand. According to me it is one of the coolest temples I have ever visited. It has a recycling Buddha that is completely covered in gold. How cool is that?
Moving on, you can also put Wat Arun, the temple of dawn, on your list. It is situated on the western bank of the Chao Praya River. The temple is very famous among tourists and is one of the most viewed landmarks of Bangkok. It has a very cool staircase rising up to meet the sky from where you can enjoy the view of the city

Apart from enjoying the view or gaining spirituality you may bring in some good luck by dropping a coin at the temples. The visit to the temples would be a break from Bangkok’s chaotic life.

BOAT RIDES THROUGH CANALS

Bangkok has been called the Venice of the east because it is built on the River Chao Phraya and is crisscrossed by canals. A lot of the canals have been filled in, and most people take these touristic tours on big long boats. But one of the best and cheapest ways to see the city is by simply hopping on a water taxi. The water taxis are super cheap and a great way to get a real flavor of what Bangkok is like for locals.

MUAY THAI

No trip of Thailand would be complete without witnessing a Muay Thai fight, the national sport of Thailand. It is truly something to behold. If you are feeling inspired and you want to get sweaty you can go to a Muay Thai gym and do classes. People actually move there to train Muay Thai.

THAI MASSAGE

After getting a purely authentic, kick-ass training the best thing to get is a Thai massage. Some people say it is somewhat like acupressure. It kind of combines yoga with oil, with acupressure and is very cheap. You can even go to places where you can sit on the chair on the street and get a foot massage or you are like drinking something, reading a book, journaling or whatever. Such massage parlors are available in every other street in Bangkok.

STREET FOOD

Bangkok is very famous for its street food. One of the coolest ways to experience that is by going to a night market. Basically when the sun goes down, the stalls come up, and Bangkok is a street food heaven, especially in the night markets. The selection of food is incredible. You can get bowls of noodles and pad Thai for about a dollar, chicken skewers covered in peanut sauce, and if you are really adventurous you can try local delicacies like crickets and cockroaches. Or you can try the best dessert in the world -sticky rice with mango and coconut milk. Thai street food is also very famous among Thai people as well about two thirds of the population get their food from street food. Street food is one of the many things that make the city so cool.

FINE DINNING

If you are more into the -white linen chef's table style experience there are many fine dining restaurants as well. But the price there will be a lot higher compared to street food. Namely, three Thai restaurants has been enlisted in the top 50 restaurants in all of Asia , which are Gagganm, Nahm and Eat me.

COOKING CLASS

But if that is not your style, try a Thai cooking course, which will teach you between 3 to 5 traditional Thai meals and it are a great way to bring a slice of Thailand home with you and it’s not that expensive either.

CHATUCHAK MARKET

One of the largest open air weekend markets in the world. Its over 27 acres big with more than 15000 stalls selling everything from pets, clothing, Justin Beiber t-shirts and weird phallic shaped message tools. Regardless, whatever you are looking for you can find it at Chatuchak market.

If I would want to stay in a finer hotel, where would I go? Or which one could you recommend?

@bozo First of all, i would suggest that you stay in Soi 11 Sukhumvit area...that is a major tourist destination...the bts sky train station is within walking distance. btw the skytrain is a cheap, fast and affordable way to travel within Bangkok...having said that you can stay at 1.Radisson Suites Bangkok Sukhumvit 2.Grand President Bangkok 3. Ambassador Hotel Bangkok ..... or you can go to www.booking.com and look for hotels near Sukhumvit Soi 11, and search according to your preferences...you can plug in price limits and other options like free breakfast, swimming pool etc and the website will find you a hotel that matches your preference
