Traveling in norway, a cabin experience

in #travel7 years ago

 Norway is a cabin country

I`ve been travelling to norway frequently over the last 7 years and i had some amazing vacations there. The last one with me and my family was the best wintervacation i had for a very long time. The weather was amazing, the cabin was like a real house and the scenery was just magic.

We went to a cabin at the Sjusjøen lake close to lillehammer, a city in the county oppland.   It`s 180km north of Oslo, the main capitol of norway. It was february and cold as f%&$, seriously the little hairs in my nose froze. But the cold is dry so it`s not as bad as the german winter mushy wet cold that gives you chill to the bones with just -2°celsius. The ride to the cabin was really comfortable, most of the time we drove the E6, which is the norwegian highway and the rest we drove some snow covered roads. Luckily we had wintertires with spikes because i am really not used to drive on a solid thick layer of snow.

The cabin we had was the most luxurious i have ever been to, it even had a dishwasher. I should add that my first cabintrip was to a cabin in the middle of the forrest that had no electricity, no running water and no toilet indoors. This was an experience when you travel with young kids in -20°celcius. I`ll make another blogpost about that one.

But this one had it all, a sauna, dishwasher and a KIWI just 15min from the cabin. Kiwi is a norwegian supermarked. The lake was frozen and i even dared to walk on it, i felt so adventurous, that lasted `til i found patterns of tires in the snow.

They made skitracks with small tractors on the lake. That made me feel a bit less of a badass. It was peaceful and quiet and we had snow, lots of snow.

-my morning view, breathtaking in my opinion

-the day before it snowed the whole night, that little car was surprisingly good to drive on snowy roads

One day we decided to go icefishing and sat for hours but the fish didn`t want to bite, it was still an experience i have never had before. Fishing on a frozen lake. We bought some fish from a local store which was probably as good as a fresh one.

-icefishing has very little rods, also something i learnt during that trip

-not my finger :)

One morning during some casual walks over the ice, we found patterns of a lynx in the snow. I never got tired of being there, if i could i would rent the whole cabin for 3 months and live there during the wintertimes.
