Fiji Water & Beyond

Fiji..the islands that come to mind when you think of tropical paradise and sparkling clear waters. Recently I returned from a 3 weeks adventure in Viti Levu (the main and largest island) where I spent time exploring Nadi - Suva and further inland.

I stayed one week in a blissful sleepy resort on the Coral Coast in a Fijian style beach bungalow. The Coral Coast is exactly that...a coral coastline filled with an array of washed up coral formations, small, big, intricate and fascinating.

It is quite sad though when you realize that the amazing formations are actually washed up pieces of dead coral affected by climate change - a contributing factor of coral bleaching. Once it would be a stunning array of live colours...today the shoreline is a wash of white.

I was pleased to see that next to the resort was a reserve where the Fijian people were taking efforts to protect and regenerate new coral. Sadly, it may be too late if we don't all stop and realize that climate change is real, and a serious issue.

Hundreds of years have created amazing volcanic rock formations which host a diverse ecosystem of crabs of all sizes, eels waiting to snatch a cheeky crab and bizarre oddities. Exploring rock pools is one of my favorite pass times and Fiji definitely supplied the goods!

Such a raw and beautiful place. I can't wait to return again another day and see
