10 Things to do in Maui, Hawaii
Here are ten of the many things we love to do in Maui, Hawaii
Whether you're in a large group or enjoying a romantic trip with your significant other, there's a ton of great stuff to do on the Valley Isle.
Whale Watching
By far, Maui is the best place to watch whales exhibit their unique surface behavior. Humpback whales migrate home to Maui every year in the winter and early fall. Taking a Maui whale watch tour with Hawaii Ocean Rafting will bring you closer to these massive mammals than you'd dreamed possible. Occasionally they'll swim right under the boat! Call (808) 661-7238 to reserve seats and obtain prices.
Helicopter Tours
The most thrilling way to explore Maui and the surrounding islands is by helicopter tour with Blue Hawaiian. You can visit the towering sea cliffs of Molokai, fly next to waterfalls surrounded by shear mountain ranges, and glide over rarely visited portions of Maui coastline. Learn about their different trips and aircrafts by calling 1-800-745-2583.
Biking
You can bike down Haleakala or you can rent a bike to go to Makawao Forest Reserve for some off road action. Either way, there's plenty of spots to explore when biking Maui. You'll find that mountain biking is something that has been nearly untouched, even though we have plenty of amazing trails. Contact Haleakala Bike Company for tour information and bike rentals at (808) 575-9575.
Hiking
The best way to explore Maui is by hiking. You can see so many natural wonders on foot, which would be impossible to do by car. Hiking in Maui will get you to waterfalls, empty beaches, lush jungle, and to views of Maui that will drop your jaw! Just make sure to only hike in well-known places and to NEVER hike over private property. Guided tours are the best ways to ensure you see the best areas in the safest way. Call Hike Maui to reserve your tour at (808) 879-5270.
Surfing
Learning to surf on Maui will change your life! There are many Maui surf schools that can get you standing up on your first wave in the first day of trying! The waves on the south and west side of Maui are usually pretty small and safe for beginners. For more advanced surfers, there are some spots, but it's not as good on Maui as it is on Oahu or Kauai.
Beach Time
Of course, going to one of the many amazing Maui beaches is always an option. We have great snorkeling and diving opportunities just off-shore, and playing games on the beach between barbecuing and sunning really can't be beat. This is the perfect thing to do with a large group because it's very easy and inexpensive to coordinate.
Sunset Cocktail Cruise
Enjoying a Maui cocktail cruise with pupus and cold drinks during a sunset over the ocean really can't be beat. This is a great trip for those in groups because young and old can enjoy a great time outside on the water. Island music, warm breezes, and whale watching (in seasons) make this one of the best things to do while visiting Maui, Hawaii. Call Kai Kanani at (808) 879-7218 for prices and availability.
Scuba Diving
There are numerous world-class scuba diving sites in Maui waters for pretty much every level of diver. Beginners will enjoy the shore dive just off Ulua Beach in south Maui, where advanced divers will enjoy the challenge of the wall-dive on the backside of Molokini Crater. Whatever you're looking for, we've got the dive, from scooters to shipwrecks.
The Road to Hana
Go in small groups and drive around Maui to see the different sites. The Road to Hana is always a favorite for those looking for idyllic waterfalls, lush jungle and rugged coastline views. Valley Isle Excursions offer great trips with fun and knowledgable guide/drivers. Call 1-877-871-5224 for pricing and seat availability.
Snorkeling
Snorkeling from the shore, or at a special destination off the coast of Maui, is a must do. This is a great activity to do with a group because the gear is cheap to rent and you can all meet at a beach close by. Or you can take over a boat and go to a more remote location. Contact Pride of Maui for prices on private Maui charters toll free at (888) 332-4528.
