Life, the Universe, and Everything - IFC S2R1

in #travel6 years ago (edited)

Have you ever found yourself lost in thought, staring off into space, and wondering what else is out there? Do you daydream about far away places? I know I do. It's amazing what our world really looks like when you begin pondering such things. These thoughts about the universe inspired me to put together a compilation of sunsets and sunrises, dusk and dawn, as the in-between times often generate the most intense contemplation of the Universe.

Contemplating the Universe

Sunset in Acapulco, Mexico
The sound of the ocean is a great background for thinking about life beyond this planet.

Dusk in Bayahibe, Dominican Republic
Here, the universe is content to wait for the evening to wind down before demanding attention.

20180727_143824.jpg

Twilight in Cologne, Germany
Where does the sun really go when it leaves our view?

20180729_145703.jpg

Sunset in Darmstadt, Germany
The sun dips lower and lower as our imaginations soar higher and higher.

20180805_085935.jpg

Sunrise in Radstadt, Austria
The mountains provide ever more fodder for the universe to dip and swirl in our minds.

20180813_155152.jpg

Dusk in Dinant, Belgium
While the hotel is massive and stable, it pales in comparison to the size and energy of the universe.

Sunset in Oregon, United States
As soon as the warmth of the sun leaves, the mountain is cold again as we stray to the skies.

Sunrise in Oregon, United States
The sun returns from its place in the universe to bring warmth - and life - once again.

Sunset in North Carolina, United States
The skies and and oceans vie for attention, but the Great Beyond remains the star of the show.

Sunset in Bavaro, Dominican Republic
The intense light is a passionate reminder of the intensity of the universe.

For those times you can't get to the universe, bring the universe to you.

Oh yeah, all photos are mine and used with my permission. Thanks!

I believe there's so much more in the universe than what we dare to dream off. Seeing how fiction stories have come alive through CGI effects is one way of knowing that all is possible. I can only imagine what is out there that is not shared due to fear. Things that we don't know may not necessary mean it isn't real. The thing is are we able to accept it when it is staring right in front of us.

Of course not everything around the universe is full of darkness. There's plenty of beauty in it. We just have to keep on looking and believe that it's worth fighting and protecting for.

I love good CGI. It's so cool that there are people who know how to do stuff like that. :-)

When you mention not sharing things due to fear, I immediately think of aliens. Is that what you had in mind? I'm not sure how the collective world would react were we to be confronted with proof of intelligent alien life.

It'd be fun to watch though. :-)

It's beautiful how somethings so far away bring that spark in our eyes, how we find beauty in small things even if we know that there is so much more out there. Great read!

All the best for the contest!

Thanks for the inspiring comment! :-D

Yes! Full time traveling through the universe. Great post. So glad you gave yourself permission to use those pictures.

I wonder how many will think of full TIME traveling versus full time TRAVELING from my comment above?

You know, I considering denying my request to use my own pictures, but then I decided, "I'll only live once (or twice or a dozen or so times..." so I might as well. :-)

Regarding time traveling, I much prefer to do it fully than to only do it halfway. I find when I do half time traveling I leave bits and pieces behind. Have you ever tried to find something you've lost in time?!?!!? That's way worse than losing something in just one time.

Thanks for stopping by. You're fun. :-D

Next time charge yourself. You put in the work taking great photos, you deserve to get paid. B-D

You know, you're right. I work hard! No more free photos for me! I'm going to start charging for all my hard work and effort.

Thanks for the support and inspiration. 😃

Great first entry for the IFC! I enjoyed checking out your images, and your take on the universe. We are so small compared to all that surrounds us, and your images here help remind me of that. THank you for sharing and good luck!!!

Thanks for dropping by! It is nice to have a bit of perspective sometimes. It certainly helps me stay grounded. :-)

Indeed! I do often! :D Also good idea! It makes me wonder what sunsets and sunrises are like on other planets! Sure would be cool to see without freezing or burning to death or facing the other potential dangers! Maybe some day us regular civilian humans assuming our secret government isn't already doing it will more spread out to other places similar to Star Trek and it will be a reality that we get to experience such things.. I love photography here on earth but wow it would be pretty amazing to be a universal photographer and to photograph sunsets and sunrises and other phenomena and landscapes all over the universe! :D You really made my imagination wander in a good way!

Super cool entry and very creative! I thoroughly enjoyed it. You included some really beautiful images and have been to some awesome places! I also really liked the words you included with your pictures. :) Glad to have you join us for whatever amount of time you decide to end up playing our game! Also excellent job on your first entry into the competition!

There are some really cool landscapes here on Earth that make me think of alien landscapes. Yes, it would be the coolest thing ever to get to see those sunrises and sunsets and moon rises and moon sets! Can you imagine seeing multiple suns or moons setting and rising all in tandem? Crazy colors - spectacular clouds and rays and all that good stuff!

I wish I were a good artist so I could draw or paint the things in my brain.

I'm looking forward to the contest. Thanks for having it!

Indeed, and much of the world is still unexplored, at least in the oceans.. So in a sense we really do sort of have alien landscapes here on earth and I bet filming way deep in the ocean would be pretty awesome also! I wonder what kind of mysteries are still left to be found on our own planet?

And yeah that would be pretty awesome to see multiple suns or moon sitting and rising! I've seen some of that stuff in video games and conceptual art, though to see it in real life would be epic. :D
I also wish I were a good artist to be able to express some of that kind of stuff!

You're welcome for making the contest, glad to hear you're looking forward to it and I look forward to seeing where it all goes with all of us. :) Hopefully it's a grand adventure! :D

The mysteries of the deep....... That's the stuff legends are made of. There is so much in the oceans that we may never see or experience. I'd love to be able to go down into the depths of our planet and see things that no person has ever seen.... Mermaids? Monsters? Who know what could be there.

Indeed! And agreed. Who knows.. I have suspicions that there's whole civilizations though, there's been so many reports of USOs which are underwater UFOs that it makes me think there's probably even whole cities underneath, and probably ancient long lost ones as well that were swept under ancient floods and cataclysmic events.
Maybe mermaids as well. :) And probably some monsters too! Heh.

Yes! I love the idea of USOs!

Love the pictures, especially of Germany. Did you take all of those? If so, was it all in the same trip?

Thanks! I did take all the pictures myself, but not all in one trip. :-) Germany, Austria, and Belgium were all in the same trip. The rest were separate occasions.

Thanks for dropping by!

So many great photographs. Radstadt Austria looks amazing. You've really highlighted many of the great places within our universe. Well done. Nice entry :)

Thank you! Radstadt was one of my favorite places that I visited during my trip to Europe. I hope to be able to return soon. :-)

Great first entry! Happy that you are on board and joining the @ifc party!

... my eternal place for daydreaming is in the shower!

Thanks! I wanted to join last season but never found a good time to jump in.

The shower is a good place for that, as long as you don't run out of hot water.

LOVE all of your shots/thoughts! Instead of sharing my own, I was inspired to create one of those motivational poster thingies out of your last photo. Hope you don't mind... 😊

Ahhhh! This is my favorite thing of the entire steem experience so far!!! Thanks! You're the best!!!

LOL! You're very welcome, @mattifer! 😊

When I had to describe a perfect day, I remember I made it about 40+ hours on a round-the-world trip with impossible stops and schedule. But fast travel achieved, one could choose to always stay at sunset, chasing after it ;)

Wait, does that mean a never ending dinner, too?

I like the idea of chasing sunset. I may like the idea of never ending dinner even more!
